I need some inside information from you Yak gurus concerning the Yak55M fuel system. In order to maximize competitive aerobatic performance I would prefer to launch with just enough fuel to complete the sequence, descend in the box and land with the minimum safe fuel. In the event of a runway closure due to an accident, etc. which might cause an unexpected delay, is the 2.5 minute inverted fuel tank available? I can see holding inverted for 2.5 minutes while the runway is being cleared but will the remaining fuel then drain back in to the inverted tank when I roll upright and lead to fuel starvation? Thanks, Dan Caldwell N55KV Sent from my iPad

Well how big of a boy are ya? 2.5 gals is about 15 pounds. Maybe an exercise program and fly in flip flops and shorts will get gross weight down. Nothing worse then flying to sequence and having to do the math in your head and how much fuel you have left, or maybe there is something worse.......dead sticking a manhole cover in. ;) Comrade C-Dog Yak55M N555LL Sent from my iPhone > On Sep 15, 2016, at 5:40 AM, Dan caldwell <sailor2645@aol.com> wrote: > > > I need some inside information from you Yak gurus concerning the Yak55M fuel system. > Thanks, > Dan Caldwell > N55KV > > Sent from my iPad > > > > > >

There is no such thing as an "inverted fuel tank". The wing tanks (sometimes only one on a 55) drain into a collector tank of 2.5 L under the floor. This has a flop-tube which means it will pick up fuel in any attitude and is the only fuel supply for the aircraft. So it is not suddenly available for emergency inverted flight! Hi Guys, Looking for advice on lowering CHT for shutdown on my Housai engine. It easily cools to 160C but takes forever to get below 150C. Any recommendations of what to adjust or change? Thanks, Andrew Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=460481#460481

Hello Andrew - I thought I was the only one with cool-down issues! My engine is a stock Housai, and I've found it helpful on these stubborn-CHT occasions (after I've run it at 1500 rpm for 15+ seconds) to open the oil cooler door and gill shutters wide, and keep the rpm at 1100-1200. It seems counterintuitive to run the engine at a higher rpm to cool it, but I figure its both circulating oil and forcing air over the cylinders, but on many occasions I've watched the CHT noticeably drop by doing this. Making sure your oil level is on the high end will help as well; for me this means at or above 13 on the stick. Occasionally, on a very warm day, my CHT just will NOT come below 155/160-deg C, no matter what I've done. On these occasions I just shut down, and close the gill shutters to force the engine temp to drop more slowly to ambient, hopefully reducing the thermal stress. Hopefully this is helpful- Justin Drafts N280NC On Thu, Sep 15, 2016 at 12:04 PM, NebraskaYak <andrew.malousek@comcast.net> wrote: > > > > Hi Guys, > > Looking for advice on lowering CHT for shutdown on my Housai engine. Try oil scavenge run 1 min at 1400 RPM with gills full open or some variation thereof. In summer I usually shut down at 150C or just under. Probably run out of gas waiting for 140C. I find when I turn off the mag switch it cools off considerably On Thursday, September 15, 2016, NebraskaYak <andrew.malousek@comcast.net> wrote: > <javascript:;>> > > Hi Guys, > > Looking for advice on lowering CHT for shutdown on my Housai engine. If OAT is 25C or above temp can VFR at 165C. Below 25C then 150C. Part of my before landing checklist besides gear mixture and prop is to open my shutters to get the engine cooled down.
