Subject: PLEASE READ - Matronics Email List 2016 Fund Raiser During November!
Dear Listers, Each November I hold a PBS-like fund raiser to support the continued operation and upgrade of the Email List and Fourm Services at Matronics. It's solely through the Contributions of List members (you) that these Matronics Lists are possible. You have probably noticed that there are no banner ads or pop-up windows on any of the Matronics Lists or related web sites such as the Forums site http://forums.matronics.com , Wiki site http://wiki.matronics.com , or other related pages such as the List Search Engine http://www.matronics.com/search , List Browse http://www.matronics.com/listbrowse , etc. This is because I believe in a List experience that is completely about the sport we all enjoy - namely Airplanes and not about annoying advertisements. During the month of November I will be sending out List messages every couple of days reminding everyone that the Fund Raiser is underway. I ask for your patience and understanding during the Fund Raiser and throughout these regular messages. The Fund Raiser is only financial support mechanism I have to pay all of the bills associated with running these lists. YOUR personal Contribution counts! This year we have a really HUGE and TERRIFIC line up of free gifts to go along with the various Contribution levels. In fact, there are over 24 different gifts to choose from! There's something for everyone, to be sure. Most all of these gifts have been provided by some of the vary members and vendors that you'll find on the Matronics Lists and they have been either donated or provided at substantially discounted rates. This year, these generous members include: Andy Gold of the Builder's Bookstore http://www.buildersbooks.com Bob Nuckolls of the AeroElectric Connection http://www.aeroelectric.com Corbin Glowacki of My Pilot Store http://www.mypilotstore.com George Race of Race Consulting http://www.mrrace.com/ Jon Croke of HomebuiltHELP http://www.homebuilthelp.com These are very generous guys and I encourage you to visit their respective web sites. Each one offers a unique and excellent aviation-related product line. I would like publicly to thank Andy, Bob, Corbin, George, and Jon their generous support of the Lists again this year!! Please make your List Contribution using any one of three secure methods including using a credit card, PayPal, or by personal check. All three methods afford you the opportunity to select one of this year's free gifts with a qualifying Contribution amount!! To make your Contribution, please visit the secure web site: http://www.matronics.com/contribution I would like to thank everyone in advance for their generous financial AND moral support over the years! Thank you! Matt Dralle Matronics Email List Administrator RV-4/RV-6/RV-8 Builder/Rebuilder/Pilot

    Subject: Checklist and Housai Engine
Group, I have original copies of the Yak Checklist that Bud Harrell put together. Free, just cover the shipping costs. I also have a Russian copy of the M-14P Maintenance Manual that I do not need, Regarding the Housai engine overhauls, our shop is going down that path. We have been doing major repair - prop strike inspections and hydraulic lock repairs, for over 10 years on them. We currently have our first full overhaul in process. There are 2 major problems with overhauling the Housai in the U.S.: 1. The cylinders are usually high time and show extreme wear. Finding replacement cylinders is not easy, today. We manufacture the guides, pistons and rings for the cylinders. We do quite a bit of cylinder overhaul in our shop. 2. Replacement internal parts, such as gears and shafts are not easily found. I have built a robust stock of cylinders, accessories and parts for the M-14P but have not done so with the Housai because there is this good guy in Omak, WA that takes care of us. We now make 3 gaskets for the Housai - the nosecase sealplate gasket, the front and rear diffuser plate gaskets. Die charges to manufacture one gasket run $150 to $250 on average. I had a customer call for pricing a Housai overhaul and I told him a minimum of $25K. The parts count on a Housai is much less, but the amount of work is about the same as an M-14P. (There are almost 50% more parts in an M-14P than an R-680.) Then, he thought about installing an M-14P. Once, you begin to add a new prop, exhaust, cowl louver modification, hoses, etc. the price tag goes high. The conversation ended with him saying he was going to put his CJ on the market. I did not want to hear that. Once there is a perceived hardship in the marketplace, it affects the value of the aircraft for everyone. The days of the $8,500 new M-14P are gone. The days of the $12,000, $15,000, $20,000, $25,000, $30,000 new M-14 are long gone. There is still that rare back-of-the-hangar gathering dust deal that pops up on a rare occasion. I had an overseas customer get a quote from Motorstar for a new M-14P and he was quoted $67K FOB Romania.....I don't know if that was Euros of USD, but that price will blow your socks off. Perhaps, George or Cliff would like to give an update on what is happening with Motorstar, today. Last October, I received this communication from Aerostar: "The company internal decision related to IAK 52 is to stop the production of the new aircraft and new spare parts." . M-14P, Inc. manufactures a lot of parts but I have been motivated to work within our small industry to support one another and begin a dialogue of what parts are going to become scarce, what each of us is already manufacturing and how to work cooperatively to produce the needed parts to keep cost to our customers down. A couple of weeks ago, I took a rudder cable bracket to a machine shop to ask them to give me an estimate to make the part. I was quoted 2 days. The other challenge in the Yak and CJ world is that we are a very niche market. Machine shops like big runs of parts....not 1 or 10 or 20.....but I don't want a large quantity of parts mouldering on our shelves, either. It is truly a balancing act to keep you all in the air. We work very hard at that. >From my perspective, we are transitioning from the days of fire sale prices - sometime obscenely cheap - for our aircraft to an age of becoming limited edition, unique aircraft. It is not only vendors that need to work together, but also owners as a group to make owning these aircraft viable and desireable. ....Adding MMO once in a while will help! ; ) Jill M-14P, Inc. www.m-14p.com Facebook: M-14P, Inc.

I have a Housai engine, 285 HP for sale sitting on a stand in my hangar. I have taken it off my CJ because of a crack on the back plate of the power s ection. I have a replacement back plate that can be installed by an overhau l shop for about $2500 in labor cost. This engine will be good for another 1 000 hours if you take good care of it like I did. The engine has now about 650 hours on it and was running excellently with go od cylinders compression and oil/fuel pressures. If anyone is interested, I'll be able to crate it securely on the vertical s tand it's on and ship it. I'm asking for it only $5,300 + whatever the shipping cost. It certainly worth it even just for spare parts ! Michael "pipes" Li-Paz (805) 857-4262. KCMA. Guys & Jill, I have a complete (mags, carburetor, compressor, generator, wiring harness & air start system) for sale. The previous owner did not know the history & their are no logs. I disabled it & the rods & internal gears look OK. The cylinders measured at limits. The pistons & rings look fine. The valves are not burnt & the guides were measured with a dial indicator & were with in limits. I am asking $8500. Please contact me off list. okanoganlew@gmail.com Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=461878#461878
