I have a CJ in which the emergency air system leaks to zero over the course of
about four days. It used to hold air forever and there was no "event" (like opening
an emergency air valve) that would have been a before/after deal.
I've changed out all the one way air valves and hosed a lot of the system down
with soapy water but so far nothing.
Where would y'all go looking first for the culprit?

Check the needles in both the from and rear emergency valves, they tend to
rust, this would cause however for air to bleed into your emergency circuit
preventing your gear from going up, unless plane has been sitting for
several days. The check valve on the top starboard side is the usual
suspect, but that has to be coupled with either a leaky check valve on the
other side or a leaky pop off valve.

Did you check the hose to the manometer and the manometer itself ? We had a leak
in this hose that was not changed for decades.

Hi Jon;
A few years back one of our more industrious members (whose name, I'm sorry
to say, escapes me) drew up a really excellent schematic of the CJ pneumatic
system.
I will attach a copy in case you do not have it.
Note there are two distinct parts of the emergency system: 1. Charging /
Storage (solid red) and 2. Operation (dashed red). From your description
I would suspect the problem is in part 1.
If you have not converted the control valves to Doug's stainless steel cones
one (or both) valves could be leaking internally to the operation side.
Other possibilities
are:----- Pin hole in tank wall or pipeline due to corrosion: Poor
connection to either pressure guage; Charge line check valve leak (the one
described by Ernie) also possibly internal.
If you have access to an ultrasonic leak detector that is probably the best
way to pin it down.
