As you know, there's not a great deal of CJ experience in Europe. I'm very keen
to have it torn apart totally and a ground up IRAN rebuild but not sure whether
that's viable ultimately. As to converting it back to the correct specification,
not even sure I'd know where to start....

Hi all
Dennis, the aircraft has generally not been close to the sea. I had it for
many years in South Africa, on the Highveld, which is aboout 450 miles from
the nearest sea and 5 500 ft asl. For the past two years it has been in st
orage in a hangar in Australia, about 30 miles from the coast.
It may have been exposure to a salty environment during the shipping from S
outh Africa to Australia, or simply older damage that we;ve never picked up
.
I'll try to get some pics this weekend.
RegardsMike

Mike,
I'm curious where the airplane has been stored and used?=C2- The only pla
ce
Ipersonally have ever seen serious corrosion on a 52 is on aircraft
stored in an open hangar and very near salt water.=C2- Also operated over
salt water at "low" altitudes.

Hi
Thanks Richard, I figured that might be the case.
Is there a generally accepted Western equivalent for the alloy materials? C

The other thing which is a little different, which slipped my mind entirely, is
that we have an engine pre-oil system. Potentially the mysterious hoses are something
to do with that...

Jay-dub;
I presume by now you realize there is only one right hand side on an
aircraft and your hose failure had nothing to do with the oil cooler hoses.
Not being familiar with the home made pre-oil systems that some install on
these aircraft I assume the two small hoses I noted earlier go to the
pre-oil pump.
If the one I questioned is on the pressure side it is likely a failure
waiting to happen.
How the large (failed) hose fits into the pre-oil system I have no idea.
Walt

Subject: | Re: Russian start valve |
Would be interesting to know. The valve in my Yak is sticky, I have to press the
lever (on the side of the valve) first, then the start button works. Got a complete
new valve, but fixing the old one makes more sense.
