Friends,
=C2-
What a great weekend of formation flying and warbird fun! We met at Statesb
oro, Georgia Friday evening for a late afternoon / sunset photo flight then
out to dinner. The next morning we made our way back to the airport where
Wayne Altman had plenty of food, drinks and smoke oil to keep us going for
the day. A special guest (not really cause he=99s Red Star family) wa
s Ahmed Ragheb who was stateside on business with Gulfstream and drove over
Saturday morning just to say Hi and hang out for a few minutes before we d
eparted for Douglas, GA.
=C2-
We departed Statesboro as =9CDog Flight=9D in honor of Wayne
=99s alma mater (Univ of GA) with five Red Stars four doing som
e basic formation training enroute with =9CDash Five=9D being t
he photo bird. Oh and we actually had a =9CDash Six=9D counting
the Bulldog piloted by Dewey Morgan acting as the recon bird launching 15
minutes before the main formation.
=C2-
Upon arrival we did a couple of formation passes with smoke just to say hel
lo to the crowd gathered for a local fly in that we didn=99t
really know about beforehand. Here=99s were a little confession may
be helpful for my soul. In preflight, I briefed one formation and break to
land upon arrival and then called for something else in flight. Considering
how jammed the CTAF freq was, I should have stuck with the briefed plan, s
o our break-to-land formation could have been better I take all th
e blame and will buy each member in the formation a drink of their choice a
t Waycross next month. STICK TO THE BRIEFING! (yelling at self here).
=C2-
Upon landing, we were met by a couple other longtime friends who flew strai
ght to Douglas, Tim and Craig. After a few minutes to speak to ole friends,
we made our way over to the XP-82 restoration hanger where we were warmly
met by Tom Reilly and Louisa =9CWeezie=9D Barendse who are prim
arily responsible for the restoration of the XP-82. They gave us a VIP tour
and presentation on this very rare airplane. I don=99t want to steal
any thunder for future articles, so I=99ll stop describing the visit
here suffice it to say, we were all overwhelmed with the scale an
d magnitude of this restoration.
=C2-
I=99ve included a couple pictures to give a shout out here to all tho
se who attended and what they were flying From left to right: I
=99m up front sporting the Army hat flying a CJ, Tom Reilly in the RPA H
at and RPA tee shirt, Louisa Barendse holding the new Swamp Fest tee shirt
with Gator mascot (XP-82 restorers). Second row: Tim Williams in his T28, b
ut also owns a YAK-52TW, Jimmy Burke YAK-52TW, Justin ? YAK and CJ expert A
&P, Dewey Morgan in his Bulldog, Wayne Altman in a CJ-6 =9CNail 29.
=9D Back row: Hank =9CHoot=9D Gibson in a CJ6, Garry Pope
in a CJ-6 =9CBlackbird,=9D John =9CGunny=9D Gibson
as CJ6 GIB, Dr. Craig Winkelman in his Swift, but he also owns a CJ-6 and
Ron =9CJammer=9D Malec who is one of our longtime resident phot
ogs and gets the award for longest drive. Behind the camera is Jay
=9CHeadset=9D Selman who was photog and CJ-6 GIB.
=C2-
Thanks to all who attended and made the weekend memorable, but a special th
anks to Wayne Altman for pulling all this together. As I always say, these
airplanes bring us together, but it is the friendship and fellowship that k
eeps us coming back.
=C2-
The invitation to Swamp Fest 12-15 October in Waycross, Georgia will be out
in the next few days, so until then
=C2-
Stay safe my friends,
Saber
=C2-
As always, if you=99d like to be removed from this distro list just l
et me know.

Fellow Warbird Enthusiasts,
=C2-
I am very excited about the RPA's SE Region=99s planned fly out event
in Statesboro, GA (KTBR) on 19 AUGUST Wayne Altman arranged an e
xceptionally interesting tour of a unique Warbird restoration facility in D
ouglas, GA including a meet and greet with renowned vintage aircraft restor
er Tom Reilly and a walk around tour of his latest restoration project an X
P-82 (see attached).
=C2-
The op plan is to brief and have the first flight in the air by 1000 with a
formation training hop over to Douglas, GA (DQH) for a tour of the XP-82 r
estoration facility, then formation training hop back to TBR for a quick lu
nch then back to flying. We=99re gonna try to get in maybe three flig
hts and wrap up about 1700. There will be plenty of water and soda to drink
during the day as well as a $0.50 discount on fuel. If anyone wants to com
e in the day before or stay overnight Saturday Wayne blocked rooms at the n
earby Holiday Inn express. Ask for the Red Star Pilot=99s discount wh
en you call 912-489-4545 to make your reservation.

Hello ,
Finlay we succeed to raise the Nanchang without jacks and tested the gear without
any damage to the plane:
-remove the fairing between the dihedral and horizontal fixed part of the wing.
- you will find 4 mounting brackets with safety nuts , put a sling (4000lbs)below
the 2 upper ones to avoid to damage hoses ans wires. Do the same for other
side
- remove engine fairing and put a sling (4000lbs) bellow 2 upper bars of he engine
mount as close as possible to the engine (in front of the generator)
- use 3 come-along chain attached to the frame of the hangar the both for wing
will have to support about 1000lbs each, the nose one will have to support about
600lbs. check the resistance of the hangar frame is enough.
- raise slowly and silmutaneously with friends.
the plane is very stable and you can climb on it carefully.

Subject: | Re: gear retraction problem |
Hi ,
thank you for your advices.
we raise the plane and tested the gear retraction.
it was ok with the remaining air at 25 atm, we tested up and down 4 times till
the air remains at about 10 atm.
it works well that is strange.....
i ve noticed an air leak inside the main corp of the front gear handle when gear
up position,
perhaps the front gear handle to replace ?
what do you think about that Doug?
Best regards
Bruno
