Subject: | CJ6 MG Wheel Bearing Question |
Looking for a little assistance on MG wheel bearings for a stock CJ with original
wheels...
The current MG bearings are stamped with 7508 & 7509. I was told that I could replace
with Timken brand part numbers 32208 and 32209. Can someone verify? Are
there other brand names and part numbers? It would also be helpful if you could
list a national chain store to purchase... i.e. Advance Auto, O'Reilly, Napa,
etc...

Finally looking at previous posts and I see the issue of Gross Weight came
up, again...Per P.5 of the Technical Specification for Service and
Maintenance, a NORMAL gross weight of 1400 kg is listed (1400 * 2.204622
=3086.47 lbs). This is the weight that the CJ-6 can be flown *aerobatic*,
analogous our to aerobatic category. If flight loads were limited to +4.4 ,
the CJ could fly at 3471 lbs in the Utility category (if it were Standard
Certification). I believe somewhere in between happens more often than not
with long range fuel, and other add-ons.
Many CJ's were converted or built as forestry and coastal patrol
workhorses. Gary Nunn has one, I believe it holds 90 gallons of go juice in
stainless steel tanks, that's a 540 lb fuel load. Others were even
converted to Ag sprayers weighing up to 4100 lbs!
Of course in the Experiment-Exhibition Category, every flight is a test
flight.

Confirmed. You can have your bearing supplier cross the Timken part
number to some other brand.
Doug typically has the bearings in stock.

Craig,
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if an airplane has a standard certification
like a Cessna or Piper single, if one looks at the Weight and Balance
envelop, the utility category is where it is approved for certain
aerobaticmaneuvers which is always less than the normal full gross
weight. Thus in the case of the CJ, wouldn't you call the 3471 pounds
the normal category and the 3086 pounds the utility category since this
is the weight the airplane is approved for aerobatics?
