Bill,You said the bottle pressure increases.=C2- In your judgement, is it
taking longer to fill the air bottle or about the same amount of time?
Did you remove the snot bottle and flush out all 3 orifices? ie: Input side
; Output side AND the drain?=C2- You can immerse the snot bottle in avgas
, shake it around inside the snot bottle, then with your fingers, plug up t
wo openings and let it drain out the 3rd opening.=C2- Repeat the process
for all 3 openings until everything that flushes out is avgas-clear.

Sounds like everything that can and should be checked/replaced/cleaned has
been, possibly (?) barring extensive port cleaning Dennis describes...
I'm wondering... is there a minimum system pressure required in the main
tank & lines before the snot-pot will give its typical & very audible
behavior?

No. The snot bottle is an air-oil separator anddoes its jobfrom the
beginning of the first burst of air pressure from the compressor.

Nope. Blew air from air compressor to the snot valve. Valve open blew
air thru it. closed, no leak.

I assume that you are making air? If yes how long does it take to reach
pop off @ 45 ATMS?
When you compressor installed did you use new crush washers?
Have you checked the line and line fittings from compressor to snot valve?
I have a compressor test set if needed.

Dennis,
I don't wanna be a smart ass but I think you mean air-water separator(?)
rather then air-oil separator.
After all in our air system in the Yak and I assume in the CJ as well you
wanna have some oil in the air...better for the actuators...
I think, despite the swap of all items already, there is only one thing left
again to replace...the air compressor.
In the beginning of my Yak career I have had 3 compressors that were not
doing what they were supposed to do i.e. deliver 50 bars of air. Now since
the last 12 years I've had no problem whatsoever....touch wood!

Go back to the pop-off valve assembly, connect your high pressure air bottle there
and blow the air BACKWARDS towards the compressor. You'll need to have at
least 500 PSI of air. You will more than likely find your problem. Either
the crush washers are leaking, or ... your banjo ring check valve assy is leaking
air backwards. This will have all the indications of a bad compressor.
If everything checks good during this test, and there are no leaks, then your
compressor or drive assembly is bad.

Yes. It should have 735 PSI of air in the lines, thus the loud hiss. If there
is no pressure in the lines, then there is no hiss. He has a leak. It can
be the crush washers, or it can also be the check valve in the banjo assembly.
The compressor reaches peak pressure when the piston comes up in the mechanism,
so there is actually a rising spike of pressure as it operates. This spike
opens the check valve and a burst of pressure is allowed into the lines. If
this check valve is not operating properly, and remains open all the time, the
system will pressurize very very slowly. If you blow air backwards towards
the compressor at a high enough pressure, you will be able to either hear the
leak in the crush rings on the banjo, or you will hear air leaking back through
the compressor. Turning the prop over when you have this air blowing backwards
will also allow you to help identify leaks. You should have constant pressure
with no impact from turning the prop if everything is working correctly.
If this all checks good, then it is likely you have a bad compressor,, or drive
mechanism. Like a sheared coupling for example. However, he says it is making
some air pressure, so that eliminates the coupling.

checking snot valve today. We have not flown it yet. On the ground takes
about 12 minutes to get 3.5. And that is from about 2. After that,
nothing from snot valve.

You'll need to have at least 500 PSI of air. You will more than
likely find your problem. Either the crush washers are leaking, or ...
your banjo ring check valve assy is leaking air backwards. This will
have all the indications of a bad compressor. If everything checks good
during this test, and there are no leaks, then your compressor or drive
assembly is bad.

Rebuilt compressor may very well be the problem.=C2- Over the years I've
seen several so-called "rebuilt" compressors fail in more ways than one.

Likely your snot valve is leaking. It might be leaking from the needle valve
or the base of the valve (bottom part of the snot bottle) is not tight. I had
same issue. Tightened bottom part and it built pressure again.

Subject: | CJ Nose gear won't retract |
I flew three hops today and on the last one the nose gear would not retract after
takeoff. It remained down and locked with a green light. Mains worked fine
and showed Red lights for up and locked. Recycled a couple times but it didn't
help. I know there's a check valve on the firewall but if it was leaking
into the Emerg down air, I believe the mains would also have remained down.
Any help is appreciated.
