Subject: | Coming Soon - The List of Contributors - Please Make A Contribution |
Today!
Each year at the end of the List Fund Raiser, I post a message acknowledging everyone
that so generously made a Contribution to support the Lists. Its my way
of publicly thanking everyone that took a minute to show their appreciation
for the Lists.
Please take a moment and assure that your name is on that List of Contributors
(LOC)! As a number of members have pointed out over the years, the List seems
at least as valuable a building / entertainment tool as your typical magazine
subscription!
Assure that your name is on this year's LOC! Show others that you appreciate the
Lists. Making a Contribution to support the Lists is fast and easy using your
Credit card or Paypal on the Secure Web Site:
http://www.matronics.com/contribution
or by dropping a personal check in the mail to:

I would like to thank everyone that has so generously made a Contribution thus
far in this year's List Fund Raiser! Remember that its YOUR support that keeps
these Lists going and improving! Don't forget to include a little comment about
how the Lists have
helped you!
Best regards,

This is just a pic from my archives, but does it help?

Hi Gil;
Replaced the entire landing light installation with a Par 36 adjustable
fixture (Piper surplus which I just had laying around the shop) and a
Teledyne Alphabeam Par 36 LED ldg. light from AC Spruce.
Whelen also make a similar Par 36 type unit (and many others). Price
slightly less than Teledyne and I think they have a similarly sized unit
with mounting provision that does not require the std. Par 36 mount.

As Mark said. It is mostly a failure at on of the solder joints on the pin connection
at the Tach Gen.

The typical place this fails is in the solder joint of the tach generator
cannon plug itself. Not always mind you, but it is a good place to start
looking. Lots of ways to check this. You can start by checking the wires
with an ohm-meter by removing both the tach gen and tach indicator plugs and
checking continuity.

the next most likely thing is the tach generator itself. Best to borrow one,
and give it a try!

and with the engine running check between one phase and another to try to see
if one is missing. Like pin A to B, then A to C, and then B to C kind of thing.
Voltages between phases should all be identical. Or close to it.

end into an electric drill and spin it to create the voltages that need to be
checked. This is a really Rube Goldberg creation mind you, but I've done it
once or twice.
>
> Of course doing all of this with no spare parts to plop in and check makes the
task much much more difficult. The best thing in the world is to just borrow
a few parts to figure this out, but you can fervently hope it is just a bad
solder joint, which it very well might be.

I've never seen it. On the other hand, I have seen many cases of failed tach
generators, and failed wiring.
