CJ6 or Yak 52?
When was the last time you overhauled the uplock actuators themselves?
If the emergency air valve was leaking, it could cause the gear not to retr
act at all since the emergency air would be forcing the shuttle valve or di
verter valve to block the main side, keeping pressure on the down side of t
he actuator, thus preventing the gear from retracting.

Subject: | Re: Accident Report Yak-52 forced landing due engine failure. |
Thank you Bill for your comments.
One thing I'd like to add. Engine thru bolts separating in the case is indeed
a description of an engine failure. No doubt about it. HUGE! When the case
comes apart, that's an engine failure! Glad you landed safely (!!!).
Running an airplane out of gas at which time the engine stops running is really
not "an engine failure" per se. Neither is an engine that stops running due
to lack of fuel because the carburetor is clogged with something that should
not be in there.
My only point here is that the reader takes away a completely different "lesson
learned" from your example where a major engine internal component failed, than
from a perfectly good engine that stops running due to lack of fuel, caused
by something that got into the carburetor.
And in my opinion, you are again 100% correct when you said that we could still
trust our same engine shop to build us an engine again. In this case, the Aerometal
shop mentioned in the original posting.

I think stories all have value. Lessons learned. Goes to show you that new engine
or not, professional or not, its those that have and those that will have it
happen. The one time you dont plan on it, Boom! As far as blaming the new engine,
that also happens. I had a new Bonanza with less than 50 hours. Engine thru
bolts separated as did the block. (at 5000 directly above an airport) Continental
didnt take it personally. It happens. And I didnt take offense to it when
they asked me if I ran the hell out of it like many do with the yak/cj. Of
course I didnt mention it to the world on line. We didnt have an On-Line back
then. Just because it ran good in the morning doesnt mean it wont blow up in
the afternoon.
Keep the stories coming. Whether u admit it or not, most of us will know what happened.
So help the next guy to not make the same mistake. Could be the motor,
could be the pilot.
Id be willing to bet that we would still trust our same engine shop to build us
an engine again.

Startup and departure were normal. While flying at 2000 feet over heavily wooded
terrain, out of the corner of my eye I spotted a yellow caution light. LOW
MAIN FUEL was written right below the warning light, one that I had never seen
come on before. A quick glance at the left inboard tank (which directly feeds
the turbine) showed it nearly empty. My INTERNAL light bulb lit up and I
quickly turned all the tank pumps back on again, while getting ready to switch
the fuel selector to emergency feed. Thankfully luck prevailed and the left
inboard was quickly refilled by the other tanks pumps. This close call was 100%
my fault. That said, I am not an airplane pilot, and I do not fly right
seat on commercial carriers thus it is OK for me to !

Subject: | Pulling Yak Wings |
Hello, All
I was a member of this list over a decade ago, when I was thinking about buying
a Yak as my first airplane. Many years and many airplanes later, Ive finally
bought one. Unfortunately, its a wreck that I will be parting out instead of flying.
Since its pretty torn up, I will need to trailer it home ... about 800 miles. That
means I need to at least pull the wings from it. Has anyone here been through
the drill of assembly/disassembly and can tell me the procedure?
