Subject: | Main air valve stuck |
Outside of Fort Worth overnight was 19F.
Main air valve wont open - got a space heater blowing on the valve body for about
the last hour with no success.
Any other ideas?

Hate to mention it, but is it already on?
Good luck. I have flown my plane in similar circumstance but never had it freeze
shut. Can you put something warm against the metal body of the valve, stem
or handle like a curling iron or soldering iron? This could work much quicker
to diagnose a frozen valve.
Good luck.

Better be careful with heaters and the like, the fuel primer is pretty
close!

Good point Ernie.
I have seen the wobble pump leak on more than one Nanchang and you
usually don=99t see it without removing the right interior panel.

Lefty loosee, rightly tightly
Sorry but I had a friend that went through same thing. Forgot to turn valve
off and was already up against the stop so he kept trying to turn it on
further. Open valve fully and close it 1/4 turn so there is some slop.

Subject: | Re: Main air valve stuck |
The Stainless steel needle mod is not a sure fire fix for a QSF-6A main air
valve UNLESS the set is free of corrosion pits. But the valve can still be
salvaged by "spot facing" the seat area which will refresh the seat and
then it will seal properly again. Any questions please give me a call.
