Also check that you turn the main fuel valve open. What you describe is probably a non functioning carburettor. Two items here: 1. Carb is full of inhibiting oil and/or: 2. They sometimes put a protective "condom" over the ambient pressure sensing tube in the carb throat. With item 1. only it will start eventually and run like a shit box. With item 2 it will never start. In addition they also usually protect the magneto points with a small piece of oiled paper or cloth between the points. These have to be removed and the points thoroughly cleaned of oil. Old engine ran good but new engine just sitting in the back of hangar didn't make sense. Got it installed now for the run in. Chinese Manuel just says install engine. I assume all stops are correctly set so cables and levers should be adjusted. On the first start seemed that a mag was off. Will run with start button and pumping on primer. But, stops when button is released or prime stops. Any ideas. We just went through the same problem. Here is what we did; 1. Remove cylinder, ours was #1 so it wasn't terrible difficult. Tedious to get all the small parts, air start lines, baffles, oil lines etc. out of the way. 2. We sent it to M-14P, Jill reworked exhaust port. She also had to replace a valve and guide. 3. Reinstall cylinder with new bolts, lock plates, and o-ring. Set all valve clearances, run and leak check. Cost: ~$1,400 for parts and repairs @M-14P. Labor: 4-6 hours if you do it yourself. -------- "Battle Yak" Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=480027#480027 ________________________________ Message 4 _____________________________________ Time: 07:04:56 AM PST US Subject: Yak-List: Re: Exhaust loose From: "HawkerPilot2015" We had the same issue on our Yak. Pulled the two cylinders and sent them to Mike at SuperFinishers in Phoenix. (The airplane is in Phoenix.) I cannot remember the cost but it was not huge. Mike, the owner, is a Yak owner. http://superfinishersinc.com/ Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=480028#480028 ________________________________ Message 5 _____________________________________ Time: 05:46:16 PM PST US From: Roger Kemp Subject: Re: Yak-List: Chinese rebuild engine Fuel pressure? On the YAK the fuel pump can be installed 180 out. Will not run. Well at least mine did not until I reversed it. Seems the Chinese have different way of pickling there engines. Condoms on jets. Who woulda thunk it? Oiled gauze between the points is similar to The YAK.they put something like a silicon grease on theirs. Can misfire like a son of a gun if you dont get every nanogram off the points.
