Up until now I have been leaning it out until the engine starts running rough and then richen it until it runs smooth and then richen it a little more. I know it's hit and miss and it has always left me feeling nervous. The unit I have bought is a digital unit with a single probe and I am not sure where the optimum location to place it is so I thought I'd put it up here to ask those who have already done the trial and error so I can place it where it will be best suited. Thanks, Lance -------- You can run but you can't hide Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=480472#480472 ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 10:14:00 AM PST US From: "Walter Lannon" Subject: Re: Yak-List: Housai EGT Probe Placement Am I correct in assuming from your post that the forward (lean) mixture stop has been cut off your throttle handle?? Or has the mixture system been modified (Americanized) to a rich forward system? With the original British system in place there is really no need for an EGT guage. In any case the the installation instructions should include a specific dimension from the probe to the cylinder. Yes, my aircraft is in std form with the levers as original and the Mx lever has the pull back lug still fitted. The Mx lever is placarded with the locations corresponding to altitude. As you know when at FTH and the throttle lever is full forward, the mixture lever can be moved full forward. FTH for my AC is around 4000' and it is possible to over lean the mixture. I am not looking for someone to teach me how to lean the engine, I want to find out where on the Housai exhaust manifold (L or R) is the "Optimum" place to locate the probe.....Something the installation manual will NOT cover.
