You should remove and overhaul the landing gear actuators.=C2- The rust-c
olored dust most likely is coming from the actuators.Dennis

Subject: Yak-List: Landing gear handle "dust"
Hi all,
I've had a landing gear handle with an intermittent air leak on my Yak-50.
I say "intermittent" because it emits a very faint hissing noise when the m
ain air is on... have been flying it this way for ~45h now, and some days t
he hiss is not audible. Have tried to locate it with soapy water, etc - no
joy.
What I have noticed is a slow buildup of rust-colored "dust" around the gea
r handle (see picture). When the light is "right" during gear extension, I
can also see what looks kind of like a puff of some very fine dust come out
of the handle.
Is this bad? Have a hopefully irrational fear that my gear system is rustin
g from the inside out.
Thanks
Andrew

I see there has been correspondence regarding running-in engines. For
peoples interest we send the attached to all our engine customers after

As several eagle-eyed contributors have pointed out to me, if you remove one
set of sparking plugs, of course you can't turn the engine on compressed
air! A foolish error and my apologies!
However I was simply making the point that the engine should be turned
through a lot before allowing it to start to circulate oil widely and build
up of pressure. Of course this must be done with the sparking plugs in
place.

Thanks for the reply. I knew, you knew better, no need to call you on your faux
