My preference in my CJ is short final...flap down I lose buffet feel in stick and secondary stalls are more likely in stall recovery than flap up. Putting flap down only requires a quick adjustment as flap bangs down... and a CJ makes a dump truck look like a glider with aggressive slips flap down...slips that youve practiced at altitude to build the sight picture. >From pattern altitude the numbers can disappear under the nose and you can still land on them with a safe flare...not a recommended procedure but it does demonstrate achievable glide slopes.
