Hi Walt, Yep, I considered that. Admittedly I am an engines and airframe man and I much prefer working on bits I can hit with a hammer. In my defence though.. The switch is very typically Russian and over rated to the max. From memory, it has 10A marked on it, but don't quote me on that. The Hobbs I am using has a 0.8mA draw at 12vdc (so 0.4mA at 24v) and the CB is mounted only a few inches away from the switch. I can't remember the rating of the CB, but it was the smallest I could get. Chris Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=486230#486230

    From: "Off2wildblue" <Off2wildblue@me.com>
I have the new CJ stripped down. It took 36 hours but I have it all cleaned up. Now I need to talk to someone that has painted their own CJ. I have painted a few cars but never an airplane. I need to ask about what panels, if any, were left on what control surfaces were removed as well as basic technique for getting around the airplane while spraying. Also, the big one on how to keep the oil from dripping while it is painted and drying. Please PM me if you can provide any helpful information at all. Even if you sent your plane off to be painted and know basically how they prepped it. This is a huge undertaking and I cant afford to get it wrong. Thanks a bunch, SAM Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=486236#486236 Attachments: http://forums.matronics.com//files/ba3671d8_e99e_406b_89da_ee6b99a481ec_162.jpeg http://forums.matronics.com//files/1264e9ff_073c_47bd_99f7_1a6c3572c8e3_609.jpeg http://forums.matronics.com//files/cb3f7d85_afb8_4920_a956_991c97e74535_199.jpeg

I appreciate your input guys. My hobbs was connected to the engine instruments switch and any time I do some maintenance or troubleshooting, the thing just keeps adding time. How do you accurately maintain the actual time on the airplane for maintenance and resale purposes otherwise? That was my reasoning. The aircraft originally did not have a Hobbs. The flight time was recorded in the a/c log books. Mine does not have a Hobbs. I keep up with flight time with a separate column in my log books. Hook it to one of the landing gear up lights. This way it is recording flight time only. unless you like to fly with the gear down? There is a really good digital tachometer available that also counts engine hours. Contact me off the forum for specifics.
