Well folks, I have been lurking and listing to this thread. I just want to point
out that there is one more item that was not mentioned as to the as to the exhaust
burp!.
As we all know the air start distributor sends compressed air to the proper cylinder
during its expansion or power stroke. That is what turns the engine over
for starting. It seems those engineers with thick glasses, pocket protectors
and slide rule added one more thing. (and yes I did go to engineering school
in the 1960's)They added a second hole in the rotary valve in the air start distributer
It is timed to send some compressed air to the bottom cylinders during
the exhaust stroke! It is to help remove any oil, excess fuel and other glop
that could cause a dreaded hydrolock.
That means the electric start owners need to be even more cautious about pulling
that prop through!
