Any operators on this list ? i suppose if people fly it without vanes they don't have problem controlling CHT ? or are there issues and you'd wish you had those vanes ? need to decide on configuration and would appreciate your advise off the list Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=488023#488023

As a safety measure, at every oil change I remove *all* my oil screens, rinse with avgas, blow dry with compressed air, visually inspect, reinstall and safety back into place. It's tedious but time well spent! With respect to your latest post... You need to invest in a spin on oil filt er AND a maintenance manual. The filter is probably the most cost effective i mprovement you can do to your engine. A manual will help you properly mainta in your airplane and probably answer 90% of the questions you post. Doug is a great asset to our community. Support him. He is always very helpf ul and I get parts usually in two days to Florida from him. Pappy; Actually you are using an AD or Ashless Dispersant oil which has a similar cleaning effect. Automotive detergent oils can cause pre-ignition in air cooled engines whic h do not cool as uniformly as liquid. They are not approved for use in an aircraft engine. Cheers; Walt From: Sent: Tuesday, March 12, 2019 2:12 PM Subject: Re: Yak-List: Oil change Justin, The common theroy is that any particulats in these engines over 25 microns in size cause engine wear. It is surprising too, how much dirty air these engine breat h. Thus putting a airfilter on the carb intake is an excellent idea. The sand - and thats what most of it is, has more cutting power -if you will- t hen the carbon from combustion. Another choise is the oil you use. I use a detergent oil. Justin; Speaking of safety measures using avgas (or any gasoline) as a cleaning age nt is not a good idea. Actually it is a very bad idea! Invest in a 5 gal. pail of petroleum solvent for that purpose. Each oil company has it =99s own name, the most common being =9CVarsol=9D from Imperial (now Exxon I think).
