Any operators on this list ?
i suppose if people fly it without vanes they don't have problem controlling CHT

or are there issues and you'd wish you had those vanes ?

As a safety measure, at every oil change I remove *all* my oil screens,
rinse with avgas, blow dry with compressed air, visually inspect, reinstall
and safety back into place.
It's tedious but time well spent!

With respect to your latest post... You need to invest in a spin on oil filt
er AND a maintenance manual. The filter is probably the most cost effective i
mprovement you can do to your engine. A manual will help you properly mainta
in your airplane and probably answer 90% of the questions you post.

Pappy;
Actually you are using an AD or Ashless Dispersant oil which has a similar
cleaning effect.
Automotive detergent oils can cause pre-ignition in air cooled engines whic
h do not cool as uniformly as liquid. They are not approved for use in an
aircraft engine.
Cheers;

Justin;
Speaking of safety measures using avgas (or any gasoline) as a cleaning age
nt is not a good idea. Actually it is a very bad idea! Invest in a 5 gal.
pail of petroleum solvent for that purpose. Each oil company has it
=99s own name, the most common being =9CVarsol=9D from Imperial
(now Exxon I think).
