I typically use Stoddard solvent for general cleaning when a petroleum
product is involved, tho the Chinese Maint Manual instructs to use avgas
then air for cleaning the oil screens.
Think Stoddard would be better?

TWs had no vanes on the front and have electric and air start. The back of the
cowl has flaps that control airflow by opening or closing the outflow. Marginal
effectiveness and other cooling issues with Oil and CHT were problems on
TW. Happy to talk if you want to directly.

Not ALL TW's had electric start. (Electric start TW's are considered
"woosy Yak's). But all exhibit exactly what Herb describes.

Yes. I=99m sure Stoddard is the same as Varsol. It will not evapora
te and leave dirt on the part like gas and is much safer.
Of course it is a flammable fluid and should be treated as such, for exampl
e disconnecting the battery, removing trouble lights, etc. or any potential
ignition source particularly when using a spray gun.
Stay safe.

With respect to your latest post... You need to invest in a spin on oilfilt

improvement you can do to your engine. A manual will help you properly main

I get a lot of leaks from my exhaust joints on Yak 52tw. Instead of the stainless
steel shims would there be a problem with wrapping the joint with exhaust pipe
fiberglass wrap, then put the exhaust donut on top and fasten with the exhaust
clamp? Also does anyone know what kind of temperatures that the exhaust pipes
can reach?
Thanks

Pull the main oil screen on the firewall, the capillary screen for the prop, and
