Very simple.=C2- Disconnect the center line going into the flap control v
alve in the rear cockpit.=C2- Screw the "B" nut on that line with a plug.
=C2- This is the air line INTO the valve.=C2- Once its plugged that val
ve is inop.=C2- You can also remove the handle witch wound have no effect
anyway.Jim "Pappy" Goolsby

Subject: Yak-List: How do I bypass the rear flap handle?
There is a constant leak I can hear from it.
We serviced and cleaned at annual and still there.
Since the rear seat will only be used by passengers and not an instructor,
I prefer to by pass it.
How do I do that?

Just to complicate matters further the CJ cooling (warming?) control is onb
oth the LH front subinst.panel and on the RH front console!=C2- =C2-Ear
lyCJ models like mine (Batch 15, 1965/66) had it on the RH console, later m
odelson the LH panel.=C2- When the change was made I do not know.=C2- A
lso shouldbe noted that the control mechanism in the handle assy. is revers

=C2-Obviouslythe cable and housing lengths will be different.=C2-Cheers

Bugger is right. I had to use a grinder to thin the copper tubing to paper t
hin. I then used a chisel that I ground the tip down to sharp edge. The ligh
tly skived the chisel along the thin wall splitting the cable. Usely the cab
le is gummed up along its shaft in the curve of the cable housing from oil a
nd dirt.

I'm sure you know 99% of the time there is nothing wrong with the inner cab
le, the issue is that the outer sheath is kinked/dented and is binding on th
e inner cable or the threaded rod ends which are swaged onto both ends of th
e cable. Bugger is getting the old sheath off the cable without screwing it
up.

As an alternative, you can have a speedometer repair shop custom make
cables for you. This is what I did for the M-14P prop governor cable and
the gill shutters cable. Works better than the original control cables
on the CJ. Unfortunately, not every city has a shop that offers this
type of service. Something additional to consider.

I did.=C2- Its been many years ago.=C2- Its pretty simple.=C2- Simply
follow the instruction of the system (I used Stits) that you choose..=C2
- The EAA has a good instruction book that gives the general practices an
d techniques.=C2- You're a doc so stitching up fabric is sort of like sti
tching up skin.=C2- ;-)
I've done flight controls for a TBM,=C2- two Champs (the whole airplane)
and other stuff.=C2- You can get all the materials and tools from Aircraf
t Spruce.=C2- You don't have to worry about the old process using cotton,
nitrate and buttrate dopes anymore.=C2- The buzz they gave wasn't worth
the terrible hangover the next morning.=C2- Really bad.=C2- But still s
tay well ventilated.
