Can anyone tell me the purpose of the small air scoop on the lower left side of
the Nanchang? Not on all CJs... Just a few that I've seen.

I imagine it is there to keep the pilot cool when the main fan (prop) quits
in flight!.

The scoop was for heat muff supply.

Jon,
Mine was also one of those unusual CJs that had this same air scoop. Did
not appear to serve any purpose, so I later removed it and filled in the
hole.
Here is a picture taken the day it was purchased and flown to Arizona
from the Bay area. The scoop is visible on the lower cowling.

Hey - thanks. IIRC, took me a month or so in the summer, working fairly sporadically
while waiting for things to dry/cure, get the correct color shade for final
coat, etc.
