Sorry, the gear selectors cannot be swapped. Give Doug Sapp a call, and he
=99ll provide you with a replacement for the front gear valve.

Thanks, I thought that was the case. We have one available on our field as we need

No. The rear is significantly different. The front and the two flap selectors are
identical.

Thanks, Dennis. Have I misunderstood or are you saying the rear flap selector is
the same as the front gear selector?

As I've written here before, this is my issue/concern. With my sortof unknown
but seems to be first run based on case stamp, well-pickled from China, Housai
(no logbooks), I had lots of carbon clog the sump screen about 20 hours into
first flying (I installed a oil filter that had almost NO carbon flecks, and the
other screens were clear). Yes, I know now that I should have been watching
that sump screen like a hawk - it is easy to check/clean just about anytime.
For the last 100 hours, I've checked the sump screen every 10-15 hours, and started
out with about 1 teaspoon of carbon, now down to about 1/2 teaspoon. And
before anyone gets bent about the photo - that is less than 1/2 teaspoon at the
bottom of a 100 micron paint filter. :)
I am reluctant to add MMO, in case it shakes loose even more carbon, "quickly".
But, before this next oil change, I will probably add a couple quarts and fly
for 1-2 hours. Boroscopes of valves, etc., all look good, btw.

In a CJ6A the QSF-2A (3 port valve) are used in the following positions:
Front gear valve
Front flap valve
Rear flap valve
12-5522-00 (5 port valve) is used:
Only in the rear gear valve position
The 5 port valve and the 3 port valves are interchangeable with those used
in the Yak 52.
Hope this helps,
Doug

Byron is correct, they are not interchangeable.
We highly recommend that anyone changing their QSF-2A or the 12-5522-00 (3
or 5 port valve) add the new "Final Filter" when installing the new valve.
There are basically only two things which kill these valves-- water and
grit. This is NOT a desiccant filter so it will not stop moisture, you
should already have a desiccant filter installed to do that job.
This new stainless steel filter is attached directly to the valve body in
the air IN port, and will stop 100% of any junk (rust or grit) from getting
into the new valve. As many of you have noticed, the price of these valves
has risen considerably in the past year and if you pay attention to the
daily news about Trump and his trade war it should give us all the
encouragement we need to be a bit proactive in extending the useful life
of these valves. Keeping the air DRY and CLEAN is the very important, that
being done will assure that these valves will last for many years.
Best,
Doug

Thoughts?

Subject: | Electrical issue |
Walt, in the YAK-50 and 52, there are two Master Power relays. One for
ground power and one for battery power. I am not sure what model Yak that
Bryan has, so I will go on the assumption it is not a 55. Both of these
relays are located in the main electrical panel which I assume Bryan knows
about. If not, on the 52 it is located on the right side, forward of the
cockpit, remove access panel and look for blue box with a cover held on by
two knurled knobs. On the 50, it is located in the hell hole on the
firewall. Same box.
I have a picture of this box, and the relays in question and am sending it,
but don't know if it will post to the list server. Bryan and Walt, I am
sending it to you both personally. On the bottom right are two relays
arranged vertically. . These are your ground and battery master relays.
These two relays are identical and in an emergency, the battery relay can
with switched with the ground power relay restoring operation until you can
get a new one.
All that said, you might get lucky. In the middle of the picture, located
underneath a metal bus bar strip is a big black bus fuse. This fuse is on
the bottom middle, just to the right of the DMR-200 Combined Relay. If this
fuse blows, it will cause your exact problem. The fuse has terminal lugs
soldered to each end, and you can remove those and put on a new fuse you can
find at Lowes, or you can replace the fuse with a circuit breaker. This is
a very old style bus fuse and can fail simply by mechanical vibration, so it
is the first thing to check.
Good luck,
Mark
