They are the same bearings in the canopy rollers and therefore you can buy a set
of them fairly cheap from Todd Bohlman, you can find him on Ebay as that's
where he sells them or search for him on the Red Star Facebook page.

Greg;
I find that hard to believe.
You are one spark away from complete disaster. That spark could come from
a dropped wrench or a thousand other sources.
Please do a small experiment: Cut two small pieces of cloth. Soak one in
solvent (Stoddard, Varsol etc). In a safe location hold it up and light
one end. Well damn! It burns! with a whole lot of black smoke; ho hum!
Now do the same with the other soaked in avgas but this time hold it with
a pair of pliers. =9C Explodes=9D would probably be much bette
r way to describe the result.
I lost a friend many years ago who was fueling an aircraft by bucket in the
hangar. He, the aircraft and the hangar were very shortly gone!
Best;

Dennis makes a real good point. He gave me this information some time
ago. I wasn=99t sure why self aligning was so important.
Found out you are pretty much guaranteed a smooth non binding rotation.
Probably important. That is what the literature and the tech support
person at 123 bearing shared with me. He also suggested as many balls as
possible. (There is a joke in there for sure)
Those bearings are all over the plane.
The rigid bearing may be a mistake.

The rigid bearing is a mistake for the control surface hinges.
The correct self aligning bearing is a double row probably utilizing 14 (?)
1/8=9D balls. I may have the P/N in the hangar but not there right
now.
The self-aligning bearing is a mistake when utilized as a canopy roller.

There are basically two sizes of self aligning bearings used in the CJ. I
normally have good stock on both.

That's the scariest thing I have read on the list to date - sends shivers up
my spine.
Count yourself very lucky that you, your aircraft and hangar still exist.
The a/c maintenance shops who annual my Yak use Varsol - a practice which I
adopt for any DIY cleaning.
Be safe and switch to Varsol.
