Subject: | Compressor shea couplings |
For General info:
The shear pins of the coupling of the air compressor are manufactured in two
dimensions:
* 3 millimeters on diameter for the shear pin p/n 14-611-252;
* 3.5 millimeters on diameter for the shear pin p/n 14-611-252-01.
Please note this coupling is a fuse and the shear torque has to be 22 kgf-m
or 159 lbf-ft. If pins with bigger diameter are installed then at overload
this fuse will not protect the gears of the engine. We strongly recommend
installing pins with maximum 3.5 millimeters on diameter. In order to do
this it is sometimes necessary to make new holes in coupling, with the
diameter between 3.5 and 3.518 millimeters (of course reamed holes).

George =93 absolutely correct. And of course the pins need to be
of the right material which will shear when overloaded!
