Walt The reference to measurements would be the total thickness of the olive front to back. The 14mm would fill a 14mm gap at the cylinder head. The material is stainless steel. I cant remember the actual machining but I can get a photo when I am at the hangar next and shoot that over to you. Yes Mark, My point exactly! A solid half lb. lump of steel where there is absolutely no possibility of flexure in a joint that, in many, if not most, cases is in far from perfect alignment. The original design is formed from steel SHEET and relies on the elastic properties of that configuration to provide the maximum possible sealing surface area. Unfortunately it was made from carbon steel which is, given the exhaust temperature, subject to severe corrosion. ie! RUST! The US exhaust manufacturer was on the right track using the flexible properties of tempered, corrosion resistant, steel sheet formed into a low weight, flexible design that actually does work!
