Excellent post by George Coy on the subject. I would like to add some fine points: the M9 (no "F") is a centrifugal advance magneto that was used in the AI-14 series and is functionally the same as the Chinese CD-5. The Wilga was so equipped. I used this mag and the CD-5 on my M-14P engines for ease of starting and range of spark advance. On M14P series II engines, the proper magneto timing point can also be found by calibration of the crankshaft position on the large ring gear, exposed under the left side access dome/cover on the gearbox. I make a kit that allows viewing installer-calibrated marks through a "window". Thank you for the input everyone. I was aware of the high level functional differences between the 3; was looking for input on what parts need to be changed internally to convert them into an M9F. As I understand, the M9-35M may be different enough that it cannot be converted? Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=505634#505634

No idea why you would want to and what your express goal is, (could you possibly explain?) but if you locked the mechanical advance down to full advance, added a M9F rotor and cap it would then emulate the exact action of an M9F.
