Subject: | Re: CJ6A Huosai Replacement Blades |
We are now in the final stages of testing our up-rated Housai which is currently
developing 300 hp at only 2300 rpm, so we are confident that it will exceed
are planned 330 hp, at higher rpm but we will publish all the results very shortly.
We are confident that the existing Chinese propeller is both perfectly safe and
can absorb the additional power, but clearly it is a very old-fashioned and inefficient
aerofoil section, and in order to really maximise additional power
one does need a better propeller. We are agents for MT, and they have done all
the preparatory work to making a version of the MTV-9 on a hub to fit the Housai
spline. But, although I know it would be a fantastic propeller, it will be
very expensive, and we have to order six new propeller is at around Euro 16,500
each!
In consequence have been pushing Alex at GT propellers to offer an alternative,
which he says he is about to, but this has been going on for some time. Critically,
I've said to him that he must have a performance comparison against the
standard propeller with the same aeroplane on the same day and in carefully measured
conditions. As yet he hasn't provided this comparison which he really
should in order to sell his propellers.
I'm keen to support him, and I hope that this will happen!

Whats the latest on these blades? Ill be hanging a new engine soon and would
like to see if these will be going with it or not.
Performance comparison? Pricing? Availability?
And I KNOW Im not the only one hawking this.
Thx

Subject: | Re: CJ6A Huosai Replacement Blades |
Richard,
I have been thinking about a 3 blade propeller for the huosai for a long time.
I asked Alex from GT if he could make a 3 blade hub using his special blades for
the CJ 2 blade propeller or other blades, but he is working on it. I haven't
heard from him since.
I think we talked together about a MT propeller with 3 blades for the Huosai and
I showed you that there was an MT9 propeller for the Jacobs with a splined shaft.
I asked Mt if they could just change this hub to the Huosai and gave you the information
but as an individual MT did not respond.
Following our conversation you talked to MT about it and they saw this hub and
they started thinking.
It's a shame that MT is charging a lot for the first 6 propellers instead of making
them at the same price as the others, betting on the willingness of CJ owners
to buy more.

Hello Jacques firstly I don't think the Housai spline is exactly the same as the
Jacobs. Certainly MT told me that they would need to design a slightly different
hub. In the real problem is that they are so successful in selling propellers
that they can seemingly ask any price! But if I had real interest from 6/8
Housai owners, I believe I could negotiate a better price with MT. And as far
as Alex is concerned, I'm extremely keen that he should succeed, but he simply
will not do a back-to-back test with his new propeller and an original Chinese
propeller indicating static thrust; rate of climb; speed et cetera, and without
this information, I don't believe anyone will order one of his propellers!

I know, and it is why I have asked them to built one for the Huosai as they have
one for the Jacos : same hub just machining the splined to huosai.
Very easy.

Propellor drive shafts! Appears to be a shower of mis-information on this subject.
The US standard splined prop. shafts begin with the SAE #20 (which is larger
in dia. than the Chinese variety on the Huosai engine.) and went, at least,
to the SAE #60 which took you into the 3000 HP range.
I suspect ( but don't know for sure!) that the Czech industry adopted the US standard.
The use of a flanged prop. attachment on the last production version of the M14P
was (IMHO) the mistake of the century!
