Subject: | Yak 55M - Change in vibration when swapping props |
Hello Royden,
The three blade MT propeller is intrinsically much smoother than the
Russian V-530 propeller, but you do need to dynamically balance a
propeller after installation, which you seem to have done. But was the
MT a new propeller, or new after overhaul? The point is that in either
case, it will have the static balance weights bolted to the back plate
of the propeller and I'm wondering if this had not been done correctly.
And, I would also ask if the people doing the dynamic balance know their
equipment well. A lot of organisations, particularly those who normally
balance helicopter rotors aren't that good with fixed wing propellers!
But I can say that the prop MT should be extremely smooth!
With best wishes
Richard

Subject: Yak-List: Yak 55M - Change in vibration when swapping props
I changed from the Russian 2 blade prop to the 3 blade MTV 250 diameter
prop.
With the 2 blade, general engine to airframe vibration as perceived in
flight from the cockpit was proportional to engine RPM as expected. The
prop was dynamically balanced. Albeit, vibration is a lot more than
sitting behind a Lycoming in a Decathlon. I have never flown any other
Yak 55M so have nothing to gauge. Engine mounts were new.
With the 3 blade and stock M14P governor, vibration was very different
from the 2 blade in the 70% to 85% RPM range. The vibration becomes
harmonic in that range akin to a twin with RPM out of sync. The beat
frequency is, I guess, around 3 or 4 cycles per second (Hz) and
increases as PRM approaches 85% at which point it becomes imperceptible.
After a dynamic balance there was no change.
I wonder if it is the governor? I have read from Richard's website that
the stock Russian governor is somehow underpowered for the MTV 3 blade.
But I don't know the symptoms.
Any comments. Have others had this problem?? Maybe this is just a
feature of changing to an MTV, whether on a Sukhoi or Yak 18T?

Economic Update
Due to the current economic conditions and the ever changing/straining
relationship between the US and Chinese Governments, the uncertainty
with the US economy and the mess at the top of our Political Leadership
have all made an impact on the overall parts sales at Cj6.com.

c3FUAL5tp0_QJUcurLz2HA_ByQAb3V0ArgVINY> Even though I have spent more
than $200,000.00 in new parts imports of which I have yet to see over
and above what I paid for the business I will be stocked well and have
been able to get small parts from China for now.
We have struggled to stay in the black and the last two months have
really put a strain on the business.
This isn=99t an announcement that I am closing the doors or
anything like that, this is to let everyone know that I can=99t
have a full-time salaried employee waiting to fill orders when someone
calls which is becoming fewer and fewer. When I purchased Doug Sapp,
LLC, I did my due diligence to review the financial information for the
previous three years, based on that information, I used it to project
the costs to move the business forward. But the way things worked out
here in the US and abroad, the rising material costs, extreme shipping
costs and the US/China breakdown and the super inflation in both
Countries of which appears to be getting worse. The parts business for
the Nanchang is more for the hobbyist and not a mission critical
industry like Flight for Life, Fire Fighting Operations, or something
like that. We depend on discretionary income and it=99s that
income that dries up first. We have seen a drop in parts sales over 50%
over the last couple of months, which is to be expected in times like
these. So it=99s no surprise that things are the way they are and
we have to adapt to our current situation. This means that we won=99
t be able to ship parts out the same day and orders will have to be
filled in the evenings or a couple times a week.
I have a huge investment with the purchase of Doug Sapp, LLC and I am
secure in the fact that Cj6.com

didn=99t purchase it to be a big money maker. I just wanted to
make sure that I have parts for my Cj6 and I do. So I am just going to
pull the reigns back and make sure that I control the costs to keep
things moving. I won=99t be able to provide the level of
support/service like Doug has in the past, I own and operate a full-time
business for the last 21 years and that=99s what I must focus on
since it=99s the one that really pays the bills and is not so
economic driven.
I hope you all understand and will be patient with me while I adjust the
business.

Subject: | Nanchang Cj6.com Parts Shipping |
After much discussion with Dana and working out scheduling details
Cj6.com will only ship parts on Mondays. I will be answering the phone
and emails to get parts pricing and to answer questions to the best of
our ability. However we will only ship parts out on Mondays, that's not
to say that if you are OTG somewhere and need something next day air
a.m. delivery, we will definitely work with you in that situation. But
since we are working full time jobs we just won't be able to be at the
hangar to fill orders Tuesday-Friday.
Thanks
