Subject: | Automotive leads |
Of course the basic problem is that you don't tell us who's leads you're trying
to fit. The practicality is that anyone with a little patience can make their
own automotive plug conversion kit and buy whatever leads they happen to find
available! We have always worked together with Dennis Savarese and he provides
the basic elements of the kits that we sell, although we add in components from
Aerometal, our partner in Hungary which we think add to the final result.
But in terms of leads, historically we used to get them from Taylor Wires and the
particular lead they recommended was called "Spiro Pro". Now the individual
holes in the magneto cap are 8 mm, and these wires fit correctly.
Then, Petronix took over Taylor, and also brought out a better, due to slightly
lower resistance, wire called "Thundervolt" which we began to use exclusively.
But I would emphasise that there was nothing wrong with Spiro Pro.
However the Thundervolt leads are actually 8.3 mm diameter and so when we sell
kits using these leads we also supply an appropriate drill so that the holes in
the magneto cap can be slightly increased in diameter by the person fitting
the kit.
But we been having huge problems trying to get leads indeed of any sort. So although
we had been using Thundervolt exclusively, we are told that their leads
would not be available for many months ahead, if indeed this year. However we've
managed to get a source of the Spiro Pro and have gone back to them, although
we are hopeful that at some stage we will be able to get supplies of Thundervolt.
I hope that answers your question.
