Justin;
I dealt with this problem over 20 years ago. Assuming this is an early CJ (1960's)
the reason is almost certainly 2 different factories! One using the original
British pipe thread specs. The other using the American revised version
which (for the size) shows a one thread difference in threads per inch. (TPI).
I can't recall whether it is + or-)
The upper fitting in your photo is the correct one since it uses a tapered thread.
The lower fitting with straight thread would require a sealing washer seat
which does not exist.
The best advice I can give you to properly correct this is take it to good machine
shop. Give them a copy of this memo. They will have the necessary tools, equipment
and knowledge to properly to do this repair.
Best;
Walt

Subject: Yak-List: RE: weepy fuel header tank fitting, CJ6A
Ok CJ6 maintenance experts, I please need some advice.
It's time to resolve my fuel header tank's weep from its forward fitting. (A chronic
CJ6 problem, I understand?)
Removing the original Chinese fitting, I see the threads in tank & fitting have
been scored. I'll try to tap new threads in the tank, but... what size threads
are these? (Pls see the 2 pix, the new fitting next to the old one for ref.)
Ie- what size tap to use? And where to find?
Advice?
Thanks all, any advice much appreciated-
