The Jabiru 3300 recently had a change to the generator that increased the capacity to 20 amps continuous. This is not reflected in the information provided on all the Jabiru web sites but is indicated on the manufacturer's web site at (view by clicking 'Engines' and then scroll down to the 3300 and click on it). This information is also indicated on the Jabiru USA dealer web site. This information is not indicated on the Sun Coast Jabiru dealer web site. True, landing lights aren't always needed and I rarely use one. Never the less, there are times when one is necessary. It is altogether proper to consider the worse case scenario here. I don't want to worry about sequencing use of my electrical system in flight. Under normal circumstances it would be possible to do so. Under abnormal circumstances then I would not want to increase the cockpit work load with a task that most certainly would not be encountered in any other aircraft as a matter of normal operating procedure. The nav/com figure is directly out of my manual and indicates the amount of current consumption when the transmitter is keyed down. I think it is reasonable to expect to use the transmitter when the landing light is on. Thanks for the suggestion about using the vacuum pump drive. I expect to have a vacuum pump installed. -- Best regards, Ray Montagne Cupertino, CA Zenith CH601-XL Builder #4939 ________________________________ Message 3 _____________________________________ Time: 07:00:19 AM PST US From: "Dave Austin" Subject: Re: Zenith-List: Jabiru Electrical Budget --> Zenith-List message posted by: "Dave Austin" Just my humble opinion, and electrical engineering training, somewhat old.. Your load calculations should reasonably include those loads that are being imposed under normal cruise conditions. Transient loads of short duration should not concern you. eg., the transmit load is very short, the landing light use is probably no longer than 5 minutes etc.. The key in your calculations should be that the current drain in "cruise" should be no more than 85% of maximum generator output. I agree with Jim, the battery will more than handle the short term requirements. For example, if your battery is a 200 amp/hour capacity, you can exceed your generator output by 200 amps for one hour before it goes flat. However I like the KISS method whenever possible. This is what I did 1. For each instrument, drew a circle on paper to the outside of the face and marked the center. 2. Cut out the circles. 3. Placed the circles on the instrument panel until they looked good. 4. Stuck them on with tape, and checked with the panel in place on the plane and me in the seat. (had to move some a little.) 5. Marked through the centers, measured the diameter of the instrument body, and drilled. Simple and worked fine. (Someone please correct me if I am wrong, I am no expert, and it has been some time.) Method 1, Good wash, acid wash, alodine, prime, paint. Method 2, Good wash, etching primer, paint. Method 2 saves some steps but not money as the etching primer costs more. Talk to a good paing supplier for good info. I stopped in at my paint store many times before I purchesed paint. They were happy to help me out. I just fall in love with the hangar. His landing strip near the "Barn" is wonderful, I will certainly put at least some yellow "caution" vinil tape in the fence at the end of the landing strip. I am sending a copy of this mail to Niol, Congratulations for your Web page Niol!
