I am in the market for a used transponder preferably with encoder.
Also need a panel mount Com Radio. Anyone out there have one of these for

I just painted my 801 and the way I went was, 1- good wash. 2- Acid wash with
Dupont 225 and maroon scotch brite, rub real good and get all the
fingerprints off, remember to wear gloves because without them you will be
introducing more prints and that is where the problems come from. Rinse good
with plain water and let dry. I used Dupont 615 self etching primer and after
that dries lightly go over all surfaces with maroon scotch brite again to
take off any overspray dust. Alodine is not required on new aluminim and it
will just add another layer for the paint to delaminate from. I then shot
Imron on the plane and it looks pretty darn good too. Try to keep the coats
within 24 hours or so , that will keep any contaminates from settling on the
primer surface. It is not that hard at all and you can get a nice finish,
just take your time and wear a GOOD respirator. Ben Haas N801BH.

The link below has a tremendous source of 701 piloting data and the hanger

      HI: Larry
The rivets are identified by the shape of the head and if a dimple or
tit or a bar on top to tell the hardness and if none on top it is soft.
most us it with dimple it works hard in pounding. This is from my old
school days and while i work at Braniff Before it folded
The feathers are 90% and am working to make sure it fits the fuselage
      fittings.

      Hi all,
just a note to let everyone know that I've put a couple of sheets of 4x12

aluminum up for auction on Ebay. They are .016 and .025 thick.

      http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=26441&item=1875002300&rd=1

I'll also be putting up the fasteners for a 701 up for auction later,
but please don't ask me whats included, as I don't have a list handy
anymore. But I will tell you its probably the vast majority of parts
needed for a 701 except the advel Advex rivets of which there are none.

      Hi guys,

Yes I am the original asker of the rivet color question.... I checked my
rivets and they squeezed no problem... they are soft.
Bu the real question is knowing when you order, what part number designation
says they are anodized coated or not... I got silver ones -- correct in all
regards except the color! I assume (maybe wrong) that they would come gold
color by default... just like an AN bolt or nut...! I guess you have to ask
the vendor: what color are you gonna send me!

I just received my first shipment of solid rivets (from A.S.S.), and they are all
      gold.
I found it strange, as I was expecting silver color. But, since the part number
matches what the plans ask for, I'm not concerned.
      Or should I be?!???

Well, we now we're gettin somewhere....

Want your rivets SILVER color : order from Wickes
Want your rivets GOLD : order from Aircraft Spruce!

Personally, the silver match the aluminum better, but the gold were supplied
      with the kit. Go figure!

As part of the anti-corrosion process used on aluminum parts in the outboard
motor industry the final operation is a dip bath in a weak chromic acid
solution. Chromic acid is very red color and the aluminum gets the gold
color from the chromate conversion process. The gold rivets may have the
same process to keep them from corroding.

      Hi Carlos.
I've seen both the silver and the gold in the "AD" type rivets. I think
they are both anodized, they just use a clear solution when they anodize
      the silver ones.
I don't know about the softer 1100 alloy "A" rivets. All the "A" rivets
I've ever used were dyed red so they'd stick out like a sore thumb if
someone put one in where it didn't belong. I figured they were all dyed
      red but apparently not.

Hey, don't you have a website for your 601 project? What's the URL? I
