You are, quite obviously, correct in all counts.
The thing is that I was treating the distance as thins: you plan it to be 3D all
the
way. If something goes wrong, you can *accept* 2D - like in an exceptional basis.
Which led me to thing I had the wrong part, thought reinforced by the fact that
the
part number had changed.
