--> Zenith-List message posted by: Doon47@aol.com Hi Listers - I'm ready to start running wire for electric trim, ect. I have some nice light telephone cable with 8 individual wires but they are solid (as opposed to stranded). Is it ok to use solid wire in aircraft or must it be stranded? thanks Chip Muldoon doon 47@aol.com

Most every one uses solid center wire coax. It probably depends more on the application and how the wire is supported and installed. I just made one up for my avionics class lab a couple of weeks ago. Here is one example, RG-400. http://www.aeroelectric.com/Catalog/antenna/antenna.html#rg-400

--> Zenith-List message posted by: "Cy Galley" <cgalley@qcbc.org> Most radio people think it is an extra unnecessary expense. If wire is not in a place that you need flexibility, solid works just fine. Just make sure that it isn't subject to vibration in an un-supported mode. ----- Original Message ----- From: "John Mireley" <mireley@pilot.msu.edu> Subject: Re: Zenith-List: wiring - ch701 > --> Zenith-List message posted by: John Mireley <mireley@pilot.msu.edu> > > Cy Galley wrote: > > >--> Zenith-List message posted by: "Cy Galley" <cgalley@qcbc.org> > > > >Nice to quote from an AC which stands for ADVISORY Circular. > > > >If that is the case, then what do you use for Coax? Subject: List of Contributors #2 - Thank You...
--> Zenith-List message posted by: Matt Dralle <dralle@matronics.com> Dear Listers, I was particularly touched this year by all of the wonderful comments people made regarding the Lists and how much they mean to them. As I have said many times before, running these Lists and creating the many new features is truly a labor of love. I will be shipping out the third and final shipment of Flight Bags and A&P Text Books this afternoon. According to the Post Office, maximum delivery to the most remote of areas is 8 days. I will have no outstanding Gift requests following this shipment, so if you don't get the Gift(s) you requested by, say, the 20th of January, please let me know via email. I would also once again like to thank Andy Gold of the Builder's Bookstore ( http://www.buildersbooks.com ) who so generously supported this year's Fund Raiser with both free and substantially discounted merchandise!! Below you will find the 2002 List of Contributors #2 current as of 12/31/02! Have a look at the list of names there as these are the people that make all of the services possible! I can't thank you all enough for your support and great feedback during this year's Fund Raiser! Once again, THANK YOU for making this year's List Fund Raiser successful! --> Zenith-List message posted by: "Larry C. McFarland" <larrymc@qconline.com> Bill, For general wiring, the tefzel wire is the best choice. Some would use automotive wire, but it lacks a rigid insulation and the strands are loose and will have a shorter life expectancy. For really small wires like the trim wires, I'd go for the stranded wire from A & S because there is no satisfactory way to support the small stuff. Coax is not comparable. It has a very rigid jacket that supports it to prevent breaking from flexure. I'd stay away from the rigid wire because it's gonna break on you. Respectfully, Larry C. McFarland Subject: Re: Zenith-List: wiring - ch701 > --> Zenith-List message posted by: "Bill Steer" <bsteer@gwi.net> > > AC 43.13-1B says in section 11-66a "Wire containing less than 19 strands must > not be used." > > Bill > > > Hi Listers - I'm ready to start running wire for electric trim, ect.
