Dear List Participants:
I'm new to this board and just getting started with my project. I have an
easy question for the XL builders. Are there any parts over 8' (wing
spars?) that I cannot bend with an 8-foot bending brake? (I plan to scratch
build as much as possible).
I am scheduled to do the rudder building class this month and I don't have
the plans yet.

Builders,
I recently installed dual contactors and batteries in the 601.
I attached the cables and tightened the outside nut while holding the inner nut,
but was uncertain that the type I contactor threads hadn't
rotated a degree or two on me. Is there a way to check the resistance of
the contacts to be sure that the position is consist with having flat contact on
each side? Any ideas out there?

the rivets without spending the money for the tools. I think I could make
something that would work if I knew what it looked like.

The rear spar on the wing is over 3 meters. Chris
Heinze told me I could splice two shorter pieces
together. I still have to draw up the proposed
changes for him to OK. There is also a long angle
that attaches to the top and bottom spar cap on the
main spar but we can get by with butt joints there.
Again and changes have to be approved by the designer.

And let us not forget the dreaded 12 foot nose skin for each wing on the XL.
IF you have a kit then no prob, but a bit of a head scratchier if scratch
building.

Thanks Dave. I would appreciate an update when the design is approved. By
a long angle, do you mean a length of L-shaped aluminum? Can it be
purchased in longer lengths?

I looked at my web site and log to see if I can
remember anything special and I don't. Just trill the
center hole to accomodate the fastener and the two
holes for the spring rivets.
For the baggage compartment fasteners, I put a small
piece of L angle underneath to re-inforce the area.

Doug,
I used csk A4s with 1/8" pop rivet washers underneath the springs.
You have to be careful and it's wise to make a practice sample before you do
the process on the actual parts. Everything is reusable but the rivets.

I was just doing an inventory on my HDS plans the other night. There's only 12
parts in the entire plane that need to be bent on a >4' brake. The remainder
of the parts can be done on a 4'. The rudder spar, front/read stab spars, L/R
wing rear Zee's, L/R aileron skins, elev skin, top/bottom L/R longerons.
Technically, I should add 6T1-5,6,7 to that list, but they're 1220mm long,
which turns into 48.00006 inches. I don't think that the plane will miss that
extra .00006 worth. None of the parts are >8' (at least in the HDS). I can't
imagine CH would design anything that required something beefier than an 8'
brake.
