Has any 701 builder with the R 912 U/L S experienced any resonance ore
harmonic vibration which would necessitate adding a different
clutch. Before my engine dealer sent the engine, he wanted me to check so
as to get me the correct set-up for the 701.

Sadly I have to say that N6042T is going to have to go up for sale. I
recently had emergency open heart surgery. I may or may not be able to keep
my medical. But my health and recovery has become primary concern. I hate
to leave the plane sit for a year or so working on recovery and fighting for
my medical.

I'm trying to build a plane with my high school students, which they would
ultimately learn to fly in. The question I have is, which would be easier
and/or cheaper to scratch build, the 701 or the 601?
I know that the 701 is much slower, but for training we don't care. I'm
considering several other planes, but have ruled out anything that won't
carry two 200 lb passengers and/or is fabric covered. Hangars aren't
available around here and are way too expensive if you can get them.
I've built a 601HDS, but I'm assuming the skills for the 701 must be
simular.

My vote's for the 701, why? There is no part that needs a brake longer 8'
to form, and it originally flew on 53 HP.

Thanks Bill, will do, but working on an elaborate graphics document that
will take time first.
Has the wing fairing coverage worn out it's need? You can replace it rather
than take up more space if you want.
Boy you guys haven't exaggerated at all about how fun the HDS is to fly!!
Words can't describe the awsome view from this bubble canopy! I'm anxious
to wonder away from flying around over the airport to establish engine
reliability. How soon did you head out into the large part of your test
area?

Phil,
If you stick with the original Rotax 65 hp, the 701 would be the easier to
do
because it is somewhat simpler. Only made more difficult by requiring .016
skins
which I would arbitrarily make out of .020 to avoid handling damage. The
701
would probably be more fun for the students as well. Would hope the plans
are better by now than reported by so many 701 builders.
Skill levels are less demanding because of the canopy, gear and smaller
engine.
701 would definitly be less costly and when you're learning to fly the
biggest surge
for students is in taking off and landing. The 701 has no equals here.

It is certainly fun to fly. The view is probably one of the best parts.
Check out the photo I took of a fellow EAA member (he is 75 years young)
flying his Citabria. The HDS makes a great photo platform.
I stayed above or within a few miles of the airport for the first 8 flight
hours. I then ventured out and landed at several different airports.
