First, there is no manual. There is a rudder building manual, similar to the other Zenith models, but there is no overall airplane building manual. At least, I haven't found it; it might be buried on the CD. There are "IPL"s for each aircraft component. The inspection parts lists are, I understand, based on the CH2000 production documents that the FAA requires, and look like they can be used (and are intended to be used) as checklists for building. The plans are hand drawn, as were the CH601HDS plans I had. The 640 plans don't appear to have the "blowup" drawings that show the relationships of all the parts in the assembly that give you a mental idea how they all fit together. However, I do believe these are on the CD so that's not too worrisome. Having only spent a few hours with the plans, all I can say is that at this point they look acceptable. I guess I won't know for sure for a while now. :) -Matt > --> Zenith-List message posted by: "David Witt" > > Matt, > > Can you comment on the quality of the plans? I would like to see a copy of one of those CD's, rebuild it and send it back to Zenith so they can send out proper information, as in the future I do plan on building the 640. Good luck with everything Matt, and if your right about them using Microsoft FrontPage then who ever buys this CD will be in trouble. I blame Microsoft for letting anyone think they can build web applications, It's not for everyone. Take care... -----Original Message----- From: owner-zenith-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-zenith-list-server@matronics.com]On Behalf Of Matthew Mucker Subject: RE: Zenith-List: CH640 buiders --> Zenith-List message posted by: "Matthew Mucker" Morgan, Thanks.. I've been exploring the content. Much of it is good content, you just have to hunt for it. Methinks the content was produces with FrontPage and nobody bothered to test it on a computer not running the FrontPage server extensions. Kinda sad when the homepage is full of broken image links! If I were a beginner at either computers or hadn't heard good things about Zenith, I'd really, really worry after seeing that CD ROM. Still, if anyone's gone before me and deciphered the good stuff from the fluff on the CD ROM, please email me! -Matt > -----Original Message----- > From: owner-zenith-list-server@matronics.com > [mailto:owner-zenith-list-server@matronics.com]On Behalf Of Morgan > Wadsworth > Sent: Monday, January 27, 2003 3:59 AM > To: zenith-list@matronics.com > Subject: RE: Zenith-List: CH640 buiders > > > --> Zenith-List message posted by: "Morgan Wadsworth" > > > Hey mathew, > > Dude...I've never seen the CD but I have experience building CD Rom > applications and what not. Thank You Glenn Paul ________________________________ Message 6 _____________________________________ Time: 02:27:54 PM PST US From: "John Birgiolas" Subject: Zenith-List: 701 wing tip --> Zenith-List message posted by: "John Birgiolas" Hi Ed, I always make any complex parts in construction paper first, work out the kinks and transfer the template to the sheet aluminum. That way I get an excellent fit. Keep in mind that there is minor deviation in all our assemblies, no two planes are built alike, and the plans are a good guide but not exact. On another topic, I am routing my fuel lines in the 701 and am having difficulty with the ANDAIR fuel selector valve, especially all the reducing couplings to fit 1/4 inch fuel lines. With all the fuel fittings the whole rig is rather large and cumbersome, and am thinking of scrapping the whole idea and building as per plans with left and right wing tanks teeing to the Andair gascolator (which is very nicely made) and then to a simple fuel shut-off valve in the cabin sole. Any comments. Should I keep struggling with the fuel selector? Is there a better one available, or is one really necessary? I put shutoff valves right at the wing root (each side)on a bracket fastened to the upper door hinge support. I can loosen the bracket pull the fuel line out of the wing and disconnect the valve if I need to remove the wing. I go forward along the cabin frame and down the door post for each tank. I tee'd them together behind the firewall at the far left side near the floor. I go through the fire wall here and to the gascolator, then to a boost pump and then to a filter and then the carb. I fly on one tank either left or right and go to the fullest for landing if I need to. I have had no problems. Chuck D. (a) Except as provided in paragraph (d) of this section, no person may operate a civil aircraft without complying with the operating limitations specified in the approved Airplane or Rotorcraft Flight Manual, markings, and placards, or as otherwise prescribed by the certificating authority of the country of registry. So how do you comply with the FAR's with inherent inaccuracies in airspeed indications due to pitot static system that cannot provide static pressure? What about the altitude encoder -- is your radar reported altitude in error and possibly leading to ATC traffic advisories that may actually provide additional risk to other pilot's safety rather than enhance safety? Seems like this could present tremendous safety issues to any unfamiliar pilot operating the aircraft and to all of us who are not... -- Best Regards, Ray Montagne Zenith Aircraft Zodiac CH-601-XL builder #4939 Construction Log & Photos: ZAC Builder Profile: Build Status: Empenage completed
