Hi, Sunny,
Have a look at Skydat instruments http://users.iafrica.com/a/am/amptro/.
Thay are a South African company with a good product (forget the GX1
and, go for the GX2). I emailed them once and they didn't reply but they
have an excellent agent in Australia who is very switched on (he even
replied to my email query on Christmas Day!!!) and sells almost anywhere
in the world. His name is Michael Coates and his web site is
http://www.mcp.com.au/xair/skydat/skydat.html. The GX1 and GX2 have a
digital display but with analogue representation for the major
functions.

>I'm getting a 601 DX (German Version of XL) with a 912S Engine. I'm
interested in getting a good (light and accurate)Monitor to watch the
following functions: EGTs Maybe CHTs using a ring sensor Coolant temp
Oil temp pressure OAT RPM Manifold Pressure Fuel Flow (with GPS
connection)
I looked at the EDM 800 from JPInstruments, it does all that(and much
more ofcourse) but if I want to use it as a primary
instrument for RPM + MAP, would rather have them as analoge display.
Anybody with any suggestions?
Sunny

Hi Phil,
thanks for the tip. Unfortunately Instruments seem to be having only 2 X EGTs
...or am I missing something?
2 X CHTs is fine but EGTs really should all be there, no?
I forgot to mention in my previous post, a data logging system should be in it
too, somthing which collects data every afew
seconds or whatever, and then the last 20 hrs of flight data can be downloaded
to a PC or Palm or whatever.
Rgds, Sunny

Just a quick note about anyone purchasing 912UL/ULS. There is some
question about a new starter which Rotax is offering and interference
with the motor mount on CH701s. No definitive answer but be cautious
prior to buying power plant. In our experience there is no need for
heavier starter even in cold weather operation. Danny

I had a look at it, they don't seem to be having analoge display for RPM and MAN.
The problem ist that here in Germany, the 601 DX (german version of XL) is classified
as UltraLight with MTOW of 450 Kg (isn't
that 990 Lbs?).
So, I have to really cut down on having too much stuff on board. Good to have RPM
and MAN as analoge display due to trend
and tendency etc. So that's a must.

Hi Sunny,
where in Germany are you located? I'm in the Frankfurt area; the plane (Ch
601 HDS) is still in Luebeck - looking for a new home for her in the
Frankfurt area.
Anyway, I'm using the Grand Rapid EIS system. No big bucks, but reliable and
good. Additionally, I have an analoge tacho installed. However, I fnd myself
looking only at the EIS...

Subject: | RE: 601XL fuel system |
--> Zenith-List message posted by: "nhulin" <nhulin@hotmail.com>
I'm going to go against the flow on this one (pun intended). I had our local
Chapter Tech Councilors over last week and while discussing my 601XL
main/aux tank setup I asked "What about a Piper Cherokee? It obviously
doesn't have a downhill run from the tanks to the gascolator due to the
position of the fuel selector." Their answer was that it relies on the fuel
to push the contaminants (water) through to the gascolator. This lead me to
start thinking in more detail about how I'd been taught (and always
practiced) the preflight on the Cherokee. Hmmm, so I dug my old Piper Cadet
manual out of the bookcase and went to the chapter on the fuel system. Sure
enough you are advised in Chapter 8, paragraph 21, section (d) as follows:
"Each of the fuel tank sumps should be drained first. Then the fuel strainer
should be drained twice, once with the fuel selector on each tank. Each time
fuel is drained, sufficient fuel should be allowed to flow to ensure the
removal of contaminants."
So, do you really need to have a downhill run all the way from the tank to
the gascolator? Ideally, yes. In practice, perhaps not. As long as you can
reliably get the contaminants out of the line, or leave such a small amount
that the gascolator can prevent any residual contaminants from getting
downstream, then you have a serviceable fuel system.
How lucky do you feel? I'll install mine with a downhill run all the way
from the tanks to the gascolator. I'm still planning on teeing together the
I/B pair and the O/B pair and then using a four port selector from a Van's
RV with one port blocked off (off, I/B, O/B, unused).
I spoke to Nick Heintz earlier this week about the four tank system. He said
that there would be an updated drawing, 6-W-13A, available some time next
month (Feb) and that they'd be on the web site.
Maybe you should wait until you see the revised system details.
Which ever way you do it you probably need to add the correct procedure to
your preflight to ensure each line from each tank is cleared correctly in
the same manner as the Piper.
