Fellow builders,
Well it didn't take me long to mess up a part and require factory
assistance. I miss drilled two holes in the elevator upper control horn
where they connect to the channel and leading edge of the elevator. I knew
better when I started to do it but did it anyway. My mistake and believe me,
I've learned from it. I faxed my problem to ZAC first thing Monday morning.
I called in the afternoon and talked to Nick who seemed a little bothered
that I called him. He said this wasn't a problem that could be solved over
the phone and told me that he'd try to get an answer to me by Tuesday. Here
it is after quitting time on Wednesday and still no response. I'm assuming
that he may be talking to Chris to get the best possible answer.
What has been most peoples experiences with this sort of thing. I'm not
complaining, just trying to find out what is normal. I've really only heard
positive comments when it comes to ZAC customer service and again only
trying to find out what is the norm.
I just want to reiterate one last time, I'm not trying to put ZAC down. I
have a lot of faith in the company based just on what I've read on this
newsgroup.

Speaking for myself, most of my experiences in getting replies back had
been really good -- until recently (the past few months). Not sure what
is happening over there, but I've had a couple of technical questions
(via email) sit unanswered for weeks, and only got a reply after emailing
3 times and then calling to ask why I didn't receive a response. After I
phoned, they tracked down the emails. Not sure why the problems lately,
although I recall hearing that one of the Heintz's had/has some medical
problems?

It occurs to me from time to time that there must be quite a few builders
that do not subscribe to the newsletter (Zenair News). If you do not you are
missing out on many good tips, builders articles, and instruction from Chris
Heinz. Some of the questions I've seen on this list have been answered
already in the newsletter.

Mark, it sounds like Nick had to forward you question to Chris. If that's the case,
then count on 5 - 15 working days delay.
It happened to me a couple of times, and Nick gave me an ETA. The first time it
was
3 weeks but I waited four weeks before following up. I believe he forgot to send
it
to Chris, so I had to wait a few days more before getting my answer.
So, hang in there, they will reply. If you get nothing in 3 + weeks, then do follow
up.
Questions that Nick can respond will be answered in around 24h if submitted by
email.
BTW, it has been my impression that Nick is always in a Monday morning mood...
:o)
But ZAC does try to deliver. I am building from plans, and am (gladly) surprised
be
the level of support I get.
Good luck
Carlos

Mark,
Several times Nick had to get answers from Chris for me and this would take
1 to 2 weeks. If Nick knew the answer, which was true most of the time, I
got a quick answer.

Mark: I have found the parts page on the Zac builders page. It looks as
though we can buy whatever part we mess up which I am sure will be many.
After dealing with certified aviation parts, these pieces are cheap! Anybody
have experience with delivery time on ordering these parts?
