Somehow I built 2 left flaps for one of the first RV3s to fly about a hundred yrs ago. Didn't discover it 'till I had the whole chapter over to help with first assembly. Thought I was gonna have to call an ambulance for a couple of them as they were hyperventilating while rolling around on the ground laughing. Traded one of the flaps to another builder for a really nice carb air box. That was almost 30 yrs ago and they STILL laugh about it at meetings. Just keep building, it ain't brain surgery. There was a minimum distance from other antennae requirement. Also it is highly desirable to install the unit on a good solid part of the structure that will be sure to transmit any impacts to the unit. Mine just happened to fit exactly into my battery racks in the tail section, which I figured fit the bill. I installed the antenna by removing the rear fiberglass 'saddle' molding and reaching in from behind. Regards, Grant

02/27/2003 12:40:36 PM --> Zenith-List message posted by: charles.long@gm.com Aircraft Spruce and Specialty sells a nice aluminum flange for about $5 each that comes in whatever diameter you want. Cut your firewall hole, bolt one flange on each side for a bulkhead, plumb up the flex tubing (high temp stuff on the engine side) and you're there. Can't comment on the CO aspects. Sealing all the holes sounds like a good idea, especially with winter flying. The CO detector will be part of my essential equipment list and mounted where it will catch my eye if it goes off. Wood" <Mark.Wood@uvm.edu> Hello all. With the talk about the steering rods and CO issues I have been thinking about other holes in my firewall. I am using an O-200 and I need to hook up a heating system. I have a heat exchanger and I am putting together a mixing box for hot and cold air. I am just a little unsure about the idea of a 2in. Dia hole in my firewall to bring the air in. I assume I should seal a metal tube through the firewall and connect red flex tubing to both sides of this. Anyone have any other good bits of info to share on this? Thanks Mark Wood

02/27/2003 12:40:59 PM --> Zenith-List message posted by: charles.long@gm.com I'm going to install my ELT horizontally to the floor of the rear baggage area. There is an L angle brace running laterally underneath the floor some 10-16 inches ahead of the rear bulkhead. I'm going to add a couple more L's fore and aft between the L brace and the bulkhead. Will space them apart in such a manner that the ELT will bolt into them through the floor. I plan to mount the antenna just ahead of the bulkhead making for a short and very accessible cable connection. This may not be the most eye pleasing approach, but makes the servicabililty much easier. I've read and talked with a few builders that have put the ELT antenna right behind the rear baggage locker floor bulkhead which sounded like a good idea. As for the unit itself, my initial thoughts were to put the actual unit in the area behind the 'seats' or somewhere in the baggage locker area. Also, does anyone know if any regulations coming down the line that would make the current basic models of ELTs obsolete. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! The antenna can mount on the turtle back, so that's easy. You want that antenna up, assuming you can make a forced landing and keep the wheels down. GGP

The bottom plate is a doubler that reaches and replaces the std angle at each end. Drawing and images can be viewed at lower set of pictures for large assembly\fuselage to center section. Not as difficult as it looks. Larry McFarland @ http://www.macsmachinel.com

Subject: Fuel shut-off valve for CH601
--> Zenith-List message posted by: "George Swinford" <grs-pms@attbi.com> I need a recommendation for a simple on-off fuel shut-off valve which can be operated by a remote handle. This valve will be located on the bottom of my 8 gallon fuselage tank with the operating handle on a sub-panel below the center of the instrument panel. The valve will be connected to the handle by a shaft, probably a length of small diameter steel tubing. The valve furnished by Zenith is quite stiff to turn and has a short stub of a shaft holding a handle made of metal with a 90 degree twist. I'm hoping for a valve with a longer shaft and less resistance to turning. Your ideas and suggestions will be appreciated. George Swinford
