Are there any reasons why or why not to use it? In theory, it should be ideal for cutting irregular shapes to the accuracy required for aircraft sheetmetal, right...? Thanks a lot for any and all info. In your CFI opinion, is the CH2000 a good transition aircraft for building time towards the 601 in the hopefully inevitable event I manage to ever finish mine? Also, which school in the ATL area is flying it if I was interested in renting it. Rucker, Alabama? Ok, well then, who's the nearEST builder, and I'll just have to make a weekend of it? I'm interested in building a Zenith, although I haven't picked a model or decided on plans vs kit. I'd really like to hear about people's experiences with different models in regards to performance, utility, construction and costs. Please speak out about things you don't like as well as the benefits--I need to make an informed decision, and the best way is to hear other ideas and experiences (and a flight might not hurt either!). Thanks in advance for your help. I have one I used recently on sheetrock. The only drawback is that you would have to first make a "negative" of what you want to create whereas with a router, you make a copy of what you want. Thanks for the idea, I'll try to use it if the chance arises. I have studied the drawings and the manual and still have a few questions about the best methods. Please feel free to contact me even if you didn't build your plane but think how yours was done works well. 1) Did people use gussets on the inside and the outside of the tubes at all corners and intersections...or did you just use the two gussets at the upper corners where the lexan window was on the outside? At the other locations where there was a aluminum skin, did you allow that to be the outer gusset? 2) Is the lower portion of the piano hinge along the top of the door riveted outside of or underneath the lexan window? 3) Does the door skin and the window overlap the door frame all the way around, or is there any area where it is trimmed flush with the door opening? 4) Where the door skin overlaps the opening, did you use and kind of weather seal? 5) Any other special tricks anybody wants to offer up? The thing can bounce and get away from you and make a quick ruin of your work! Also, I have found that the bit can load up with shavings that will hinder the cutting (if cutting thicker stock). I always wear eye protection when doing this, you can imagine if something broke at those high rpms! The planes fly very simularly. I was able to jump right into the CH2000 with 67 hours of CH601HDS time. The new CH2000 is available through my flight school, see http://www.philsflying.com. --> Zenith-List message posted by: "Hodges, Mitch" You mentioned in another thread you are flying a CH2000 now. From: "Don Honabach" --> Zenith-List message posted by: "Don Honabach" Hey Everyone, I'm thinking about using some quick disconnect valves on the outboard wing section for the Pitot tube, but I'm not sure how well they'll hold up to the ram air pressure and was going to do a quick pressure test. Does any one know the typical PSI that the pitot tube is exposed to? Thanks! From: "Don Honabach" --> Zenith-List message posted by: "Don Honabach" Ihab- I've done some parts using a router and had in general good success. Just be careful of all the pieces that may be thrown at you during the process (safety goggles are a must). Also, if memory servers me right, it's important to properly support the AL as the router bit tends to grab it while being cut. I also recently ordered a circle jig for my router to help make the particle board templates for inspection places (hallow inner support ring and inspection plate circle).
