By that I assume you mean the opening is larger than 3.5 inch and contracts down to your scat tube. The air duct to your radiator should expand from opening to the radiator to slow the flow for more efficient cooling. -- Bryan Martin N61BM, CH 601 XL, Stratus Subaru. Airframe construction complete. I've started testing my Rotax 912S and run into a problem. I've mounted the slightly larger 912S Rotax oil cooler in the original Zenith position, below the PRSU. I've mounted a rotax radiator in the cowl on the right side of the engine. I built a plenum (? box) which directs air from a 3.5 inch SCAT hose through the radiator. The 3.5 inch SCAT hose has a funnel shaped intake at the front of the cowling. The top of the radiator is below the expansion tank on top of the 912S. ________________________________ Message 3 _____________________________________ Time: 08:38:50 AM PST US From: "Scott Laughlin" Subject: Zenith-List: Stabilizer Mounting - 601 series --> Zenith-List message posted by: "Scott Laughlin" For those of you who have finished the rear of the fuselage. Can you measure the distance between the REAR HT Attachment brackets (6-B-3-3)? This should be the same on the XL and other 601s. I need to know this to see if my Rear Spar Attachment (6-T-2-3) is going to fit between them. Ill make a new one if need be. If you could measure the distance to the nearest mm, that would be great. Also, multiple replies would be helpful so I will know if there are differences. Thanks for the help in advance, Scott Laughlin 601XL, Omaha, NE www.cooknwithgas.com ________________________________ Message 4 _____________________________________ Time: 08:53:49 AM PST US From: "Bill Steer" Subject: Re: Zenith-List: Stabilizer Mounting - 601 series --> Zenith-List message posted by: "Bill Steer" The distance between the aft inside edges on my 601 is 96 mm. I have a thin shim on each side for a snug fit. You are probably aware that there is some small adjustment that can be made by moving the horizontal stabilizer fore and aft. The forward movement is limited by the leading edge of the stabilizer coming into contact with bulkhead B6. Hope this helps. Bill > > For those of you who have finished the rear of the fuselage. Gene, My wife is shorter than I and we've been using booster cushions to get her seat into the right place. Hopefully when we're sure of the exact dimensions we'll fabricate one simple cushion insert that can be installed, or stowed in the baggage compartment when not needed. -- Grant Corriveau Montreal Zodiac 601hds/CAM100 C-GHTF ________________________________ Message 7 _____________________________________ Time: 08:48:44 PM PST US From: "Paul A Schelfhout" Subject: Re: Zenith-List: 701 Plans building? --> Zenith-List message posted by: "Paul A Schelfhout" G'day Monty, When I first noticed your email nearly 2 months ago I thought it definitely worth a reply, hope you are progressing well, finished the Wings ? My story is a bit long winded but I will prece it as best I can 1. I purchased CH701 plans in 1990 after several year of consideration - then along came an opportunity to purchase a C150 so the CH701 was shelved. 2. 1996 sold the C150 and purchased a C210 which I kept for about 4 years - but a bit too expensive to run 3. Re-appraised the CH701 plans in March 01 and asked some questions of ZAC - they responded well and also advised that Version 4 of the plans would be out in July - So I ordered them - received about Aug/Sept (Perth Western Australia) 4. Studied the Plans and sourced the first lot of material - arrived from Melbourne in Jan 02 Well I have been very slow to get going, cut the first requirements from across the sheet only to find I should had cut all the long lengths first, so I catalogued every item and sorted by thickness and Length and things are going much better - especially my understanding. I followed the ZAC advise and started at the wings ( I think it would have been easier to start on the tail) anyhow I have everything cut for the wings, the spars and ribs are drilled and ready for priming - so the fun is about to begin. Any advise will be well received. The attached pictures were taken 27 Jan 03, both wings are now ready to assemble Paul Schelfhout (pronounced shelf hout - silent "c" for the Aussies) Perth Western Australia ----- Original Message ----- From: "Monty Graves" Subject: Zenith-List: 701 Plans building? > --> Zenith-List message posted by: Monty Graves > > I have been plans building a 701 for sometime. My bracket that is supposed to go between the supports shows 107mm wide on the new plans(6-T-2-3). I guess the XL plans are a little different than the HDS plans. I ended up with a little wider than 107mm, but I'll just wait to see. Thanks to all who replied.
