Yesterday, I tested my right side fuel pump to see how everything works. When I turned it on, fuel was leaking ( a small jet) from the left side pump. I tought that the check valve within the pump is not that great and I went to the archive and found several good threads on this subject. So, following what many did, I installed an ACS check valve after the pump ( on the left side). This morning, I try the test again and I see no difference at all both at 0 fuel pressure (downstream hose open) or at 3psi. I figure that the reason is the lack of potential back flow (the facet pump brings the flow to a very low level). In fact, I wonder if two check valves in series is not counter-productive for this purpose. Now that I know this system will have gas transferring between the tanks... is this a real issue? I recently rigged my elevator cables and noticed that the lower cable (or, actually the upper one if viewing from the elevator perspective!) rubs the torque tube mount when the stick is in certain positions. I understand I can correct the touching of the cables TO EACH OTHER with a bungee, but this will not hold this lower cable off the torque tube mount. I can place some nylon at this contact point... but: has anyone else had this problem?? Could I have built something wrong to get what should be reasonable (non-touching!) clearances at this point?? There are hundreds of 701s out there, they cant all have rubbing at this location! (can they)? BTW... I found out that my 'big hole' in the top of the fuse was cut in the WRONG place! I checked the drawings 3 times before and after cutting.....then... I checked the ZAC website updates and found a recent set of corrections posted to the LATEST drawings... and sure enough this dimension was in error...!!! So, if I can help even one person from making this and other mistakes... even if you have the LATEST drawings... check http://www.zenithair.com/stolch701/7dwg-updates.html for most recent corrections... ther are more than you might think! Thanks for any suggestions on the elevator cable rubbing Jon 80% done and a long way to go ________________________________ Message 3 _____________________________________ Time: 10:19:40 AM PST US From: "mark.townsend" <601xl@sympatico.ca> Subject: Re: Zenith-List: 601 wing walkway/ thank you --> Zenith-List message posted by: "mark.townsend" <601xl@sympatico.ca> Your welcome Fred, I passed on the info cause at 230lbs when I stepped on the demo plane I could feel the dip in-between the ribs right through my feet. Anyone put a pulley here instead? Am I wrong about the wear? ________________________________ Message 5 _____________________________________ Time: 07:43:05 PM PST US From: "George Swinford" Subject: Re: Zenith-List: Fuel pumps and check valve - once more --> Zenith-List message posted by: "George Swinford" Michel: Are you using the Facet 40171 pump, which supposedly has a check valve? I think you are right - it will wear real fast. Mine was 25 to 30 degrees. I am not sure about the rudder cable lead in a 601.
