Loctite makes a product called PST, Comes in a tube at most automotive
stores. It has Teflon POWDER and crazy-glue adhesive. NEVER, I repeat NEVER
use Teflon tape. Ordinary pipe dope is fine.
The thread lockers do not affect the fiber or plastic lock rings on
self-locking nuts. Blue grade Loctite is fine. Red is a little tougher and
is sometimes referred to a bushing and bearing locker. It requires heat to
remove.
If it isn't in the plans, you are adding un-necessary weight which degrades
flight performance. If you want to make changes, ask the factory or
designer.

What you want to use on your fuel fittings is called Fuelube. It's
available at AC Spruce, P/N 09-25300, page 318 of the ACS catalog.

Teflon tape, used correctly, works perfectly and is used in many, if not most,
gas station pumps across North America. Since the fuel systems of all the cars,
trucks and buses in North America are not filled with Teflon threads, one has
to conclude the product works very well. The idea that it's too difficult to
use correctly is, of course, incorrect!

We work with fiberglass here, we are making all new fiberglass parts
for our 701, we are thinking of re designing the engine cowl also...

Yes George it works perfectly but you don't fly your car. The big problem
is not its use, but it re-use. If the Teflon tape is not carefully removed
from the first use, when the fitting is removed and then re-installed, the
operation of re-installing can create a problem.
The action of using re-installing pushes the little bits of tape into the
line where it is free to move until it is hopefully stopped by a filter.
This is what happens in the car system. The filters in the stop these little
bits from getting to the carb or fuel injectors.
When using it an airplane, it might go down stream from a fitting to the
main jet or the small screen at the carb inlet. This can have disastrous
results. You can't just coast over the side of the road in an airplane and
wait for the tow truck.
Tape use on oil lines can have the same effect. If you read the instruction
on the box for a vacuum pump, using tape voids the warrantee.
As Teflon pipe drop is really available and work very well, I don't see why
anyone would insist on using the tape with its possible problems.
