Let me begin Chris by offering my heartfelt congratulations on your near
completion of your HD. That's quite an accomplishment -- I'm envious! To
answer your question, according to my XL plans, the CG range is 300mm to
450 mm from the datum

Zenith List: Chance to save $$$ and get a plane which
is almost complete--- I have a friend who has to sell
his 601 HD project due to a change in his medical
status. I asked him if I could post this info on this
list first, before he advertised this to the general
public--- after about a week this plane will be
advertised to different "for sale" sites.
This plane is over 90% complete. He has built the
windshield, with "gull wing" doors and rear side
windows style cockpit. At this time this is ready to
attach to the fuselage--- if not used, a bubble canopy
can still be installed at this time.
The complete airframe is sitting on its' gear.
Wings only need tip panels riveted on. Rudder
complete, Elevator complete. Horz. Stab. Complete.
He has the engine mount installed which will accept
the VW engine. He has the fuel tank readt install----
plane still needs instrument panel installed. This
plane has NO connections to the FAA paper trail.
This plane has great workmanship throughout-- He is
also going to sell his NEW, zero time VW engine which
he purchased from Great Plains.
1) airplane firewall aft (to include engine mount)
asking: $11,500
2)NEW zero time VW engine ( 76 HP / 2180cc, rear
drive, with Ellison carb and exhaust) by Great Plains
asking: $4,500
He is willing to discuss the price on either item,
but ask that they be reasonable.
Bob is an elderely gentleman and wishes that you
please follow these guidelines:
1) no phone calls before 10 a.m. EDT
2) no phone calls after 10 p.m. EDT
Location is in southern Maine-------- call Bob at
(207) 721-8974
PS I would be buying this myself, except I'm
building the 601XL--- "fred" do not archive

Hi List.
My father-in-law handed me this article today about a
701 that had an emergency crash landing near London
Ontario yesterday. All we know is that Joseph (J)
Davis of Komoka had an engine failure - engine type
not mentioned - and had to do an energency landing.
It was unclear in the article but somehow he hit a
fence trying to land on a private horse training track
and flipped the plane. He was out of the plane by the
time help got there and is apparently unhurt. The 701
has rather extensive damage judging from the picture
in the paper. He had been flying the 701 out of
Woodstock for more than three years according to the
paper. That is about all the detail I have for now.
Glad you are OK Joseph.
David

I fly with Jay regularly but have not talked to him since this happened. He
is on this list so I am sure when the dust settles he will comment. The
plane had a 582 rotax blue head and was in it when we flew to osh (13 hrs
one way) in 2001. I knew when he got his Sonex finished I would not keep up
but I thought we would still have some adventures this summer with our pair
of 701's
I still stand my conviction that if I have to land a plane in a "bad area"
the slow 701 is my choice.
Dave Chesterman 582-701 188.9 hrs as of last night

From the archives I know a lot of you guys hard chromed your gear legs.
For those who didn't, what did you do to protect the gear legs? Paint
or just a lot of grease?
By the way, what are people using to grease the leg and guides (and
keep it greased)?
Thanks in advance
