I just ordered some additional brake line from ZAC and it came labeled
at Pitot/Static line. I then followed up with e-mail to Nick and was
told they use the same tubing for both pitot and brake.
What worries me is that he mentioned that the tubing is rated at '300PSI
working pressure'. I thought the brake line needed to be 2000 or 2500PSI
and was just wondering if anyone on the list knew.
I've also sent another e-mail to ZAC, but wanted to get all opinions
before I go ahead and rivet up these structures and potentially find out
I have to replace the tubing right away.
Thanks!

Thanks to all who responded to my query regarding the VDO fuel
sender. I decided
on going with bending the probe arm 90 degrees and vertically
offsetting the mounting
of the sender unit to compensate for the offset in the center of
rotation of the
float sender arm rather than going with a bend greater than 90 degrees.
Photos of the sender unit are posted on my web page if anyone is
interested. Just
click on the link to the "Fuel Sender".

Don.
I used plastic/flexible tubing originally and was forever having trouble with
the efficiency of the brakes. Changed recently to solid brake lines with
flexible ends...and brakes will hold it at 2000rpm. (Lyc0-235) I suspect the
flex tubing was expanding rather than transmitting the pressure to the slave
cylinders. A lot happier now.
fwiw.

So much for working on the fuel sender without having the tank in the
same room. I've now opted for Rico's solution. After walking down
to the garage, I discovered that the tank walls are not a flat
surface so applying an upward vertical offset to compensate for the
offset in the center of rotation of the sender float arm is not an
option. Rico's solution of applying a bend of greater than 90
degrees appears to be the way to go.
I've updated my web page accordingly...

Hi Ed, what flexible tubing were you using? Nylaflow
or NyloSeal?

The usual plastic stuff is Nylaflow (1000 psi). There
is also Nyloseal which is suitable (2500 psi). In the
ACS catalog, they say not to use the 1/4+ diam
nyloseal lines for brake tubing however. I installed
NyloSeal tubing, but cannot comment on it's
performance yet.
The 300 or so PSI tubing looks like Polyethylene
tubing.

Fellow Z-builders:
I guess I should have expected it, but it was a surprise to happen upon this
site advertising a company selling the Zodiac as a completed airplane to the
public. "Hog Air" with a Harley Davidson engine.
Check this out:

Maybe they are jumping the gun a little on the sport aircraft market. Will
Zenair allow this?

If you want a surprise you should bring up the site and see a picture of
your aircraft on it. Hog Air has no permission to use pictures of my a/c
and I have no affiliation with this company.
I have asked that the picture be removed. As other pictures on the site are
"stolen" from ZAC, you might want to check for yours.
As the info - "A Zenith XL HD" what is an XL HD, and other items such as
pictures of HDS wings, are inaccurate, perhaps this is a ruse.

Well, at least, you have a "pretty one"...
I'm surprise that a business like this does'nt have
pictures of their own work.

No Thanks!! Personally I'd hate to think that I'm riding a harley and there's no
shoulder to pull over. It sounds like a good idea but give me a Rotax.

Hi Michel.
Can't be sure what it was I used as I threw it all out...I know I used the
Poly-flo connections on it. I got it from a local hangar and not thru
ACS...sometimes something for nothing is exactly what it's worth!
Sorry I can't be more helpful.

All seroiusness aside, I've joked for many years about a Harley-powered J3
Cub.
The Harley engine is basically a dry-sump two-cylinder air-cooled radial with
most of its power produced at less than 2800 RPM. (No propeller speed
reduction required)
Other than the fact that the recently-mentioned web site is stepping on a lot
of toes, it still would be interesting to hear one fly by. Wonder if the
pilot should wear his "colors."

Jeff:
It all looks like a joke. If you look at it, there is a business address
and phone number. That may be bogus. I still think the folks at ZAC would
say something about this if it is for real.
Take care,
