601 Builders,
The ZAC canopy trim rubber is molded with the sealing flange
angled a bit up from the slot and this works fine for the front
edge of the canopy because it is a relatively sharp angle.
Have any of you found that when the flange is turned down on
the rear edge it seals the sides better? It doesn't seem to
look any different, but the trim closes on the sides better with this angle
turned inward. Is there a problem with this in closing?
I havn't glued them yet.

Greeting all-
How flat is your flat workbench? Right now I have my 4' x 12' table +1mm / -0mm
at various points measured with a taught string & square and was wondering if
that is flat compared to what the rest of you have, or do I have more work to
do? Thanks.

I can;t remember which builder said it now but "We're not building the Space
Shuttle here" said it best. +/- 1mm should work well for you. However I know
a builder whose bench is flat, zero tolerance, without getting ridiculous and
using laser tools to determine flatness. For him, that is the acceptable
standrard. For you, you have to decide what you are comfortable with and of
course what is safe.
My table was not perfectly flat but certainly within a degree or two. I have
no visible twist in any control surfaces and everything appears to have come
together nicely. However, I haven't flown yet so I don't know if there are
any "hidden" issues that I can't see with the naked eye or have been able to
measure.
Good luck
Steve F.

I had been meaning to report the low readings on my VSI. Now Grant says:
Have you calibrated/checked the vsi?=A0 I did have a leak in my vsi glass/face
at one point that was causing it to underread by about 300 fpm...
I was getting to altitude quite rapidly but the vertical speeds shown were
anemic. After getting my Garmin GPS 196 I found out that it reported much
higher vertical speeds and in line with what I was observing in altitude changes.
So, I must have a leak in my VSI also.

April 1st is already gone, but lest we forget, these are the same nice
fellows who put Briggs & Stratton garden tiller engines on a DC-3.
At that time the web site was known as "bs-air.dum".
Prior to that engineering feat was the Bean Burrito-powered "FannyJet" where
all occupants were required to use oxygen masks from boarding onward. That
was on "www.whiz.wow"......................and now we are to suffer the "Low
Rider" model which won't rise above ground effect, the "SoftTail" model intended
for grass runways, and now the "Glide" series: the Electra-Glide requiring a
really long extension cord, the suction-powered Monica-Glide which is
self-rising, and lastly, the It Won't-Glide wingless version. Remember, the letters
comprising "Hog-Air" can be re-arranged to spell "Hoax, Ho-Ho-Ho, Jim Bede BD
Jet, Lossless Semi-conductor, I didn't inhale, etc"
Where do we find the "Nuclear 701" site?

Someone on this list suggested a very small 'bead' of silicone sealant
around the face of the glass -- and this is what worked for me.

Subject: | Rudder cable fairing in the 601 rear fuselage |
--> Zenith-List message posted by: "Jeff & Marcia Davidson" <jdavidso@fcc.net>
Listers,
I riveted most of my rear fuselage together today. The last step in the
process per the "Draft Manual" is to position the Cable Outlet Fairings on
the fuselage sides. Between the drawings and the "Draft Manual", I'm now a
bit confused about where the plastic fairlead and the aluminum fairings are
positioned. For instance, the plans seem to show the fairing immediately
next to the flange on the front HT Frame while the "Draft Manual" seems to
show it 30 mm forward of the front HT Frame centerline. For those that have
installed their cables, how my deflection will the fairlead create? How
critical is the placement of the opening? Any help would be appreciated.

Looking through my photos, it looks like I mounted the aft end of the
fairing about even with the forward edge of the HT frame. I think that would
put the hole about 30mm forward of the frame. There isn't very much
deflection of the cable and I don't think the placement is too critical.
