I bought the firewall forward kit form Zenith, It comes with a fitting for
this purpose. It's a metal can about 3 inches in diameter and 3 inches long,
the filler / pressure cap screws in the top of this can and a 1 1/4 inch
nipple in the side attaches to the outlet hose from the engine and another
nipple in the bottom attaches to a hose leading to the radiator. A 1/4 inch
nipple is located just below the pressure cap and leads to a plastic
overflow tank. I don't know who makes this device but you might ask Zenith,
or I can check to see if there is a manufacturers name on mine.

Hi Tim,
I am very interested in your radiator set up and how well it works. Is this
a proven idea or is it something you are trying out?
The ZAC supplied expansion tank works pretty well, of course you will need
an overflow bottle as well. And for that I would definatly NOT use the old
ZAC supplied milk jug! My local Autoparts store had a nice designed one for
about $8.

I am presently setting up the cooling system for my Status Suburu in my
601HD. I have a pair of radiators in with the engine and venting out the
sides. My question is want have builders been using for the expansion
tank .

Hi Frank,
I'm still using the ZAC supplied overflow bottle, but I'm very unhappy with
that. Can you give some details about your overflow tank (such as supplier,
part number, etc.)?
Thanks a lot

Oh boy that is a while back...I honestly cant remember but I can tell you it
has proper mounting lugs and does not leak through the mounting hole if it
gets over full....Its amazing how well the glycol strips off the galvanising
on the firewall...Makes a right bloody mess.
And it just fits very sweetly on the firewall, with a proper overflow tube
that you exit at the bottom of the cowl.
I would suggest a trip to a few Auto parts stores to see what they have. It
was definatly an aftermarket deal and sold as an expansion tank kit.
Good luck
Frank

I made mine from 1/2 of a squat propane bottle capped on the cut off end.
Bought a radiator filler neck from auto parts store. It has the overfill
nipple on it. Then just use a standard radiator cap (4 or 7 pound). If you
direct your inlet so that it makes the coolant swirl, the first thing to be
ejected as the coolant heats up is the air, like the swirl in a toilet.

Hello Tim,
I have a Subaru installation with the radiator under the rear spar. I went
to the local car wrecker and had a look around, he had a whole heap of
plasic expansion tanks lying in one corner. I picked a nice one, i.e. plasic
as new, no signs of brittleness, one litre capacity, and got a new cap at
the auto shop for a couple of bucks. Having such a lot of different units
right in front of me helped me to choose the right one size- and shapewise.
Plus the whole thing installed in the plane cost me about 10 $US. My engine
comes from the same scrapyard (it has since been completely rebuild from the
ground up), and I finished my plane including radio and BRS for under 15
thou $US, scratch build.
It works fine, 20 hours on the clock and never runs too hot.
Cheers,
Chris

I should have been more specific...Sorry.
I meant Torque developed by the engine.
