I've been going there for years and this was the best weather EVER! And because of the great weather, there were lots of airplanes, builders, and spectators. Since I finished my Zodie Rocket earlier this year I finally got to fly in for the event.... what a great feeling. I'll let others that were there fill in more details. Maybe everyone is busy building and can't break away long enough to comment. Anyway, it is really nice to know I'm not alone. Fred has done a magnificent 601. Caught up with quite a few folks and swapped some interesting tales and techniques. Weather was just about perfect, with just lots of airplanes of all kinds as well. The local EAA chapter, which was raising funds by selling food and soda, ran out! I can only imagine the feeling of flying to it, but next year, its going to happen! Weather prevented flying down there the last two years, so Lee and I drove in Saturday morning. The 601s were really well represented. I got to meet a good number of persons on this list. There were 3 601s that were really beyond expectation in workmanship. Fred Hulen's 601 took the trophy if there was one for the finest work I'd seen in 601hds series craft. The weather was very cooperative and warm, but not hot. Jeff Small's plane, also a 601hds came a long way and was the next one making it really hard on the rest of us approaching finish work. Nearly intimidating quality. Another 601hds on the ramp by the pumps, and I missed his name, but his canopy was really unique and quality too. I think there were two more hds and hd. One looked like a mazda powered hd and had internal radiators behind some large NASA type vents just aft of each side of the engine. Not as large a group as Sun and Fun, but well worth the trip. I'll be several hours sorting images from the day at ZACs. Nice to see 601s reaching a maturity and quality that is competitive with the more expensive aircraft. And if Bill Nichelson and others would have had their planes right there in front of the hanger instead of out on the ramp you'd be saying equal praises for the whole group! I wanted to swing by, but it wouldn't work out. Sounds like you guys and gals had fun. I have yet to see a real live Zodie up close. I'm waiting on the next rudder workshop. Kevin
