I dont think so........ when i could buy a used 0235 for 6000.00 and have it 0 timed for another 12,000, and in the end have a Real aircraft engine with 2500 hr before overhaul time??????? There was not much of a decsision in my mind. Down side, if you want to call it that? Empty weight of 860 lbs. vs 700 Chris heintz will give approval for 1400 gross. Had i to do over i would like to try the Jabiru, I actually have this one for sale and would like to build the tail dragger version now, in which case i would probably try the Jab engine???( out of curiousity ) a friend of mine is in the finall assembly stages of his XL up in North Bay, Ontario, he has installed the Jab , I am curious to see how it preforms for him. Would you mind sharing information on your installation in particular some weight and balance figures. What made you choose the 0-235 in the first place? For comparison with the O235 performance, my CH-601HDS has a 912ULS installed with an Arplast PV-50 in-flight adjustable. Empty weight 630 lbs. Easily cruises at 120 or 130 mph. Tops out at 140. Climb @80mph is 1000-1500 fpm. The 912S runs almost the same as the 912, but it had a severe vibration problem when reducing power as it slowed down thru 4500 rpm to 3500 rpm. It was bad enough to break an exhaust pipe. On advice from several sources including ZAC& Rotec, I had the gear reduction retrofitted with the "slipper clutch. The vibration has gone away. Now it is operating just like the 912. (ie: feed it gas, check the oil and go flying) So, the moral of the story is: The 912S is a great engine. Make sure that you get the version with the slipper clutch. That's my 2 cents worth. They are the best choice as you can undress the entire engine in about 2 minutes. This means you can do all the minor tweaks that you know you should and not let them slide because its too much hassle to get to the engine. I epoxied a piece of .025 aluminum on the back side of the fiberglass, claming it in place with the rivets holding the springs and the holes. Ialso used the plastic washers to keep the DZUZs from falling out. The gear was manufactured by a well known company and had the hydraulic line "gunned" in the gear. I have installed Matco Reservoir Brake cylinders, so now I need advise on what axle, brake, brake disc, wheel and tire, I certainly would appreciate input on this, thanks in advance for your help. Plus about 17 10 x 32 Truss Head Machine screws holding the Lower Cowl to my in-cowl Radiator ducting. I dropped the 2- Heintz-pins in front for truss-head machine screws some time ago, too. GGP
