Unless you take great pains to make your cabin air tight, you will have
plenty of places where air will exit, such as the seam where the canopy
meets the side of the cockpit and the hole through the spar for the rudder
cables and wiring. Getting air to exit shouldn't be a problem.

Re the exit of air..
An associate of mine put a small fan in the bulkhead at the back of the
luggage compartment. Says it really helps in the hot days.

lines? <
Hi Larry, The 7V9 drawing indicates the cut line. Before you put shears to metal,
its a good idea to buy some heavy Bristol Board and cut the dimensions on
that, fit it to the wing, tape it and fiddle with the exact dimensions, then
transfer that to the metal. Now you will have an accurate fit. I used this technique
thruout the building, especially for the wing roots (I ruined several),
and any curved or fiddly parts. Everyone builds differently, and the plans
quite often lead you astray, so stay one step ahead by reading and understanding
the plans way ahead of the parts you are working on. On the wing tip one area
to watch for is the bottom wing skin at the wing tip. If 7v9-1 is a little
off, you will distort the bottom skin upwards in this area, so keep 7v9-1 loose
and accurate.

I did the same using computer two computer fans in the rear storage shelf
bulkhead. But what helped the most was the single computer fan I placed
between the IP & the front edge of the canopy. It's mounted flat over a hole
I cut in the top fuse skin about 3" in dia. When turned on you can really
feel the breeze going up the front of the canopy and past your head. I had a
situation one humid day that caused my canopy to start to fog up. After
turning the front computer fan on the canopy cleared off in 10 seconds. If
both front & rear fans are turned on and the side fuse NACA vents open that
long hot taxi to the runways not so bad.

This is my first need to crimp and the construction manual says crimp every
20mm on both sides of the piece. This is getting me NO WHERE near the right
angle. Anyone have any hints?

Trial and error, here's what it should look like:
http://home.comcast.net/~bryanmmartin/index.html
The crimps you can see in this photo cause the angles to curve to match the
airfoil shape. The crimps in the other edge of the angles that you can't see
in this photo cause the angles to curve to match the edge of the wing skins.
Closely spaced crimps where the radius of curvature is small, less closely
spaced where the radius is larger.

Cut well outside the lines and slowly and carefully trim and file until the
shape is right. Your actual dimensions may not be exactly as they are in the
plans.

Or anywhere even close in my case!
And on a different note. I found a correction in the, "updates to the
3rd edition" today. This was never corrected in the 4th. ed. that I'm
building to! Or even mentioned in the "updates to the 4th. ed.! Now they are right
back where they started.

Gig,
You is right, that's a definite hair-puller,
especially the top side, which has a compound angle.
Remember that the bend will be formed in the flange
OPPOSITE to the one where you put the crimps.. Like
Bryan said, it's trial and error-- takes a lot of
adjustment. Also, be sure to co-ordinate the crimps
with the hole drilling in the skin, so you dont
pre-drill into a crimp void, like I did...
And for J.Birgiolas on "701 Wing Tips", (for cutting
the end of the wing skin):
On the XL, I found the table of coordinates in the
plans to have questionable value. I used those
numbers for roughing in, then I bent and clamped a
piece of thin wooden dowel (1/8, I think) to fair in
the final curve back to the aileron. Your only fixed
points are the spar end and the rear-channel end.
HTH,
Rico

In my 3 1/3 years of flying my 601 I hadn't checked compression until
yesterday. I was pleased to find the following:
#1 80/79
#2 80/78
#3 80/78
#4 80/78
The engine is performing flawlessly.
BTW Flew 5 more Young Eagles today. Now have a total of 175
